Well on Rafa's review of the season the other night he stated that he did not want to sell Alonso!
Having said that he said the same thing about Robbie Keane in January

Well if you want him atleast spell his feckin name right.

tw@ts.

Have they Ciggy? the last week they said Alonso wouldn't get any better offer than 20M

For 27M I wouldn't be tempted. But for 50 I would have to admit I am.

In fact, the only player who I consider not for sale, would be Gerrard and Torres. Right now

The others, have a price. In the case of Alonso I'd put him a huge price, in the case of Mascherano a huge one aswell, but I have a thresold of accepting money, due to our financial situation.

Have City really bid? If they want him then we should use this chance as an opportunity to milk them. Don't let him go for under 32mil.

Manchester City ready to swoop on Liverpool's Xabi Alonso
By David Maddock 5/06/2009

Manchester City are ready to take advantage of an Anfield feud to snatch midfielder Xabi Alonso.

Alonso has had an icy relationship with fellow Spaniard Rafa Benitez, ever since Liverpool boss Benitez tried to sell him last summer.

Now, the Mirror can reveal that Alonso heads the list of players wanted by the super-rich Manchester club, and manager Mark Hughes even placed him ahead of Gareth Barry as a target.

The City boss wants the pair to form the fulcrum of his midfield, and he is ready to capitalise on a breakdown of the relationship between Alonso and his boss to try to tempt him with a £20million bid.

Alonso lost faith in Benitez when he tried to sell him behind his back last summer, and when it seemed the same would happen at the end of this season, he resolved to find himself another club.

There has already been contact from Real Madrid, and while – contrary to reports – there has yet to be a concrete bid from the Bernabeu, it seems certain they will follow up interest with an offer in the region of £18m.

But the politics at Anfield will prevent a swift conclusion to any deal, and that will allow City the chance to tempt Alonso with a massive deal.

After Benitez was heavily criticised for trying to sell Alonso last summer, the player has been his most consistent performer.

And the Anfield boss knows he would look bad if he blithely went ahead with a sale. Instead, canny Benitez wants Alonso to ask for a move, absolving him of all blame from the fans for the loss of such a popular player, but the midfielder is reluctant to do that, because he feels he has been forced out. Alonso’s first choice would still be a move back to Spain with either Madrid or Barcelona, who are also monitoring the situation, but City have the financial clout to make him think again.

They gave Barry a staggering contract worth almost £100,000 a week, and given their desire to land Alonso, they would be prepared to top anything Real could offer.

He and his family are happy in the north west of England, and until the end of the season he wanted to remain at Anfield, before tiring of the Kop politics.

Signing for City would allow him to stay where he is settled, and would also offer the huge incentive of a deal that could be worth in the region of an amazing £30m.

His departure though, will leave Benitez in a difficult situation. The Liverpool boss was caught napping by City over Barry, and he has no obvious alternative as a replacement for Alonso.

Benitez will have in the region of £50m to spend if he sells Alonso. He wants Valencia winger David Silva, and the rest of that figure will have to be diverted to a replacement in midfield, leaving little for a striker or the two defenders that are also on his wish-list.

------------

WTF 18Mil. These values keep getting lower and lower. Next it will be 14Mil.

I dont see why Xabi would want to leave us for Man City  ???

He is on decent wages here, he is always first for the starting line up and he is playing around the best.

Would be a bad move by Xabi if he did leave but all of this is probably just media :censored:.

How can Ronaldo and Kaka be over £60 million and Xabi only be worth £18 million, this is b0ll0cks. I would only sell him for a minimum of £35 million otherwsie I would tell the other clubs to get fecked.

Also how come real madrid are suddenly so cash rich, if you listen to all the rumours they must have a transfer kitty in excess of £200 million.  :suspect:

Must be annoying for them to keep getting beaten by Barcelona then.  :wwww  :wwww

I really dislike Real Madrid, partly for this kind of :censored:. Where is their fan base then? is it South America because I would have thought that Spain is quite a limited market, due to there being a lots of top teams etc.

Weird I have never ever met anybody who admits to supporting them. Man Utd yes lots, arsenal a fair amount. A healthy number of foreign scousers, and a lot of Barca fans but never ever any Real Madrid fans, except one from Portugal and he's a complete pr1ck.
