You probably mean Mauricio Pellegrini, the Villareal coach that is rumoured to be in the pole position to be the Real Madrid coach next year.

Good coach, provided that he's allowed to work. But that's to say much, because the same old mistake is being done, great starts are going to be signed but not decided by the manager, but the new chairman.

He is the current manager of Villareal. Perez could want him as manager Nanny. Infact Marcelo Bielsa said the other day he should give it a go.

That's interesting; make it cash (£15M+?) plus Sneijder and it's a deal as far as Im concerned.

We could spend big on an attcking player then.

bad deal that Heinze + 25 million... Heinze is 31 years old... xabi is 27. I wouldn't take it even if it were true...

Effes, I used to like aswell what Snejder did with the orange shirt and before coming to Spain, but I see two problems:

* His adaptation to a bigger league like the Spanish one hasn't been succesful, and that makes me wonder what will be his adaptation to the English league which is not less demanding.

* He's been caught on fiesta several times in two years, he likes the night.

* He's an attacking player exclusively, and thus, he wouldn't be direct replacement for Alonso. We'd be praying all the season in order Mascherano doesn't get injured. Because if he does, our options would be Plessis, Gerrard out of his best position (sacrificing his goal rate), and Barry if he comes. And I don't know how Barry has performed as a holding mid.

We wouldn't lose only Alonso's vision and passing in such a move, we would lose aswell the best next defensive holding midfielder, for when we don't have Mascherno available.

| Former Red Steve McManaman has exclusively revealed to setanta.com that Xabi Alonso is still hurting from being told he can leave Liverpool, but the Spanish playmaker does not want to leave Anfield.

McManaman has grown to know Alonso well, both as players from their time in La Liga and since the Spain international moved to Merseyside, and he insists Alonso does not want out of Liverpool.

However, McManaman is all too aware of the imminent return of Florentino Perez as president at Real Madrid, a man who reportedly wants Alonso, and a man who usually gets what he wants.

Liverpool are loathe to lose their midfield tempo-setter, with Rafa Benitez insisting he will not sell him, but McManaman admits scars remain from when Benitez tried to use Alonso as a fundraiser for Gareth Barry 12 months ago.

“It really hurts when a player is told he can leave a club. It’s a real kick up the backside to be told that the manager is not bothered about you leaving,” McManaman told setanta.com.

“I know Xabi well and I know he was hurt by the fact that the club were willing to sell him last year.

“If another club comes and offers him a lot of love, maybe it will turn his head.

“But Liverpool have come out and said they want Alonso to stay, and hopefully for Liverpool that will be enough.

“Transfers are complicated. It takes at least two things for it to work and that is the player wanting to leave and the club wanting to sell. Liverpool do not want to sell.

“But if Liverpool are offered an absurd amount of money maybe they will say ‘yes’. They were prepared to sell Xabi last year in order to sign Gareth Barry.

“Hopefully Liverpool will hang on to him. Xabi is truly happy at Liverpool, he loves the fans, and I think he’s a Barca boy anyway!”

Giving a greater insight on incoming Madrid president Perez, McManaman warned every top club to follow Liverpool’s example by handing Fernando Torres improved terms, before Madrid swoop for the world’s best.

“Definitely expect Perez to cause a couple of major headlines. He works under the radar a lot more than [outgoing president] Calderon, who promised to bring in Kaka, Fabregas and Ronaldo and then looked like a fool.

“Perez had Figo signed before he announced it, he has never shouted the odds, and I expect him to give the manager a couple of real presents – a couple of world class players when he arrives

Sabre - you'll obviously know more about Sneijder than me - so your point is very valid.

It's just whenever I've seen him, he looks like a top class player.

The only reason why I think Xabi going may benefit us, is that I think it can give us big money to get quality in.
Im obviously not implying that Xabi is not quality, but Im not sure we have much money to freshen up the squad with quality rather than quantity.

For example, (and the quality over quantity has been discussed much on here) look at Riera (£9M) and Babel (£10M), I dont
think they improved the first team as much as a quality £19M player would have.

I just think selling Xabi gives us the chance to get a "game changer" who plays in the final 3rd of the pitch.

Riera has improved our wing play as much as anyone has IMO... on the other hand our very own 20 million keane didn't improve our team as much as riera did... you can't really tell a player's ability or his impact to the team by the the price tag alone... I'm sure there are some gems out there who wouldn't cost 20 million and who could improve any squad... As much as I think benitez's transfer record is not as bad as some make out to be, I have to admit, the youngsters he brought in hasn't exactly lit up the world. I would love for us to have a young starlet like owen was, or like walcott or fabregas now.

It will only be worth if if we really do get in a game changer/quality player. Rafa knows this so he is probably getting other deals in place first before he does this as he needs all his transfers to fall in place this time.

Im looking at the combined impact of the two players compared to what impact a successful £19M
player could have had...on the first team.

Of course price doesn't guarantee quality, but usually quality guarantees a big price for the selling club.

I think injuries would be a major concern with Sneijder too, but I think its possible that some of those other problems could go away or be less of an issue under Rafa.

But I can think of some other Madristas Argentinas that I would want ahead of Heinze
