Rafa Benitez has rubbished reports in the Spanish media that an agreement has been reached with Real Madrid for the transfer of Xabi Alonso.
The midfielder has been linked with a move away from Anfield this summer but the Reds boss has poured cold water on suggestions the Spain international is set to leave.

The Liverpool Manager said: "The situation is clear, we do not want to sell our best players and that includes Xabi.

"He had a very good season for us and can be an important player in the future. There is no agreement with Real and we want him to be part of our plans going forward.

"Xabi himself told our club magazine only two weeks ago that he was looking forward to his sixth season as a Liverpool player. Why should he want to leave now?"

Benitez added: "Xabi's agent came to see me recently to talk about the future. It was a surprise for me and I pointed out to him there were three years left on Xabi's contract.

"I asked him if the player was happy in Liverpool and he said yes. It was a short meeting."

Why is everyone ignoring this article and still speculating about xabi going.I know Rafa has said before that he doesnt want to sell Xabi but this more categorical.

Dont worry i believe it lad  i said before nothing has been agreed, an Xabi wants to stay,

Not worried about penalty takers, aCe, just pointing out Barry will have less opportunities to score.  Won't deny Robben has ability, but he's a cheating/diving so and so and I don't like him.

Bav as ive said before they are two totaly different secnarios. Keane spent most of his time on the bench, Xabi plays week in week out, even when he come back from injury he was bang straight in the team,

If you remember when Rafa was asked about Keane being a liverpool player he said I THINK SO,

He has come out on a sunday an said Xabi is staying, thats good enough for me, Ive been on the phone today with my friend in Spain an alls they did was laugh , they know i love Xabi, so wether there winding me up , only time will tell.

im not taking any notice now ffs after they told me they were bringing in Kaka an all lol ,

That ba,stard Perez can promise all he wants to the fans, he takes over tomorrow ,but if Xabi wants to stay hes staying here, im actualy sick of fecking hearing about Madrid , we are fecking better than them, .His ideas were to bring Spanish players to  Madrid ,i dont think Kaka an Ronaldo an feck knows who else are Spanish,

I know ive gone a bit haywire but as i said different scenarios

I don't think its just a case of if Xabi wants to stay. If Rafa accepts a bid im sure as sad as he will be he will still negotiate terms with them (Madrid). Anyway im sure we will find out soon enough.

It´s a clamour here in Spain, it´s not just one paper or one stupid journalist. Is all of them assuring the deal.
Rafa is just increasing the prize like he did with Keane.

That's what I was thinking too. Otherwise we wouldn't have heard anything from Rafa until the deal was done.

Very different scenarios between Keane and Xabi.

Keane didn't fit and it was far too obvious he would go sooner or later.

Xabi has responded magnificently this year. Rafa wants him to stay, Xabi wants to stay.

It would take an absurd bid (far more than the £22m suggested in papers), for Liverpool to concede. Heinze at 31 is perhaps worth 3-4 million at max.

Perez is upto to his tricks again.

Is this clamour at all like last summer's clamour about Ronaldo?  Every day we were told he was Madrid bound by someone and everyone in football it seemed was sure it was on the cards.  We know how that turned out.  :glare:

i think for years Real have just done as they pleased with transfers.
They want a player they get the player.

What happened las summer with united and Ronaldo (as much as i hate to say this) where united just said no. For Real must have been a major shock.
It must be amazing for Real Madrid to want you to play for them, steeped in history and all that.
BUT...for Alonso he is also at a club steeped in history, a club that if you were a footballer and someone said Liverpool want you, you would think yes please thank you very much.
Also Xabi is idolised and the fans stood by him when he was mistreated last summer.

Getting back to my point, i think its just as attractive to play for a top premiership side as it is for Real these days.

I hope Alonso thinks the same too.

I would love to see Alonso give an official statement or something but these days statements dont mean anything.

Im not worried about Rafa wanting to sell him, I think Rafa really wants to hold onto him but im a little worried that Xabi wants to be back in spain.

Saying that though, Alonso seems happy at the club and he has a hell of a lot of respect and support from the fans. Hopefully he will take a leaf out of Torres' book and stay with us, knowing that silverware is heading our way.

He need to shut up!

Arsenal captain urges Liverpool raid

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has urged his manager Arsene Wenger to sign Liverpool’s Xabi Alonso, despite Rafa Benitez insisting the player will not be sold.

Fabregas told Setanta: “We have lost big players, but the boss knows what he is doing,”

“The days of signing a new player aren’t finished. We need someone in the middle to make competition and make a difference, plus give us a new dimension.”

“I think that is all we need. The rest is perfect.”

When pressed as to who the Catalan would like to see at the Emirates, the former Barcelona youth product sighted his Spanish teammate Xabi Alonso.

He added: “Xabi would be great. He’s experienced and can score goals. I’m sure the boss is aware of that fact,”

As much as Fabregas may want the silky midfielder to join him in London, a move would seem unlikely in light of Rafa Benitez’s recent comments.

I left out the old parts.
