No chance Alonso's going to City for 18 mil.

If they paid 14 mil for De Jong we can easily squeeze 40 mil out of them

In all seriousness though, we won't sell Alonso, not unless there's an absolutely ridiculous bid from someone.

I like Xabi, but if we sell him for at least 18 million and then replace him with Barry for 8 million and that gives us enough to afford a world class striker then it may be what we need to win the prem. Barry is a good player that I sense will up his game if he came to us. On a side note Tevez is leaving Utd and wants to stay in England.

A certain sunday "paper" has us down as having a war chest of £64m, £20m plus sales, of which sales include Alonso to citeh for £18m, Voronin and others totalling £44m. Of that we're going to buy Barry for £8m on a promise made by the leprechaun and Downing for £12m. I'd rather Alonso and Riera than Barry and Downing quite frankly.

I can link the story, or paste it in, but I'm sure some on here don't like this particular paper and I've been reading the article on another forum.

The article mentions only five money values plus a number of names and totals of outgoing players :-

In - Barry £8m
In - Downing £12m

Out - Alonso £18m
Budget - £20m + sales

Total - £64m made up of £18m for Alonso, £20m as a standard budget for us plus sales of 11 players.

They mention Pennant, Itandje, Alonso, Voronin, Babel, Riera ("vulnerable"), Hyypia, Degen ("disastrous signing"), Hobbs, Dossena and Leto. Not sure how that comes to £44m though, Pennant and Hyypia are all but gone and for no fee that I know of. Alonso at £18m is one figure mentioned, Voronin is reported to be going to Hertha if they make the CL and for 4m (£/E) and they reckon we got £1m for Hobbs, so that would imply we'll get £21m from selling Dossena, Leto, Babel, Itandje, Riera and Degen - maybe not unrealistic if we can get something like £7m+ average for Dossena, Babel and Riera.

But that would leave our squad a bit thin, 11 players out for two in. Riera and Alonso replaced by Downing and Barry we'd be light of a RB for starters. But I guess most of those named have either been big name replaced in the article or are fringe

Absolutly agree with that , no improvement bit.

I wouldnt mind Barry coming in an Xabi staying put though . extra dept to the squad over all imo, But not at the expense of getting rid of one of our best players to generate funds, I heard last week though that the Barry deal is done an dusted wether there is any truth in this only time will tell.9million plus add ons i was told,

this 'newspaper' that owzat refers to is notorious for spreading and trawling rumours and then compiling them into a 'story'. if alonso goes to man city i'll eat my own testicles.

Yeah I agree signing Barry would be a good squad improvement but Stewart Downing? I think he is so overated I hope we don't sign him.
