Also we still wont have solved the problem of getting someone decent in on the left. Oh well im sure MON will be happy now but when does Barry's contract expire? He should just walk away for nothing to us then im sure that will really :censored: MON off.

Liverpool in double transfer blow

Jun 13 2008

by David Prentice, Liverpool Echo

RAFA BENITEZ’S bid to fund Gareth Barry’s transfer with Xabi Alonso’s exit have been dealt a double blow.

Villa boss Martin O’Neill rejected Liverpool’s latest £13m offer for Barry yesterday, and reports in Italy now claim that Juventus have switched their attentions from Alonso to Bayern Munich’s Bastian Schweinsteiger after refusing to meet the Reds’ £15m asking price.

A deal for Alonso appeared to be close last week when the player’s agent went to Turin for talks – money Benitez would have used to fund Barry’s arrival.

But Juve officials said on Wednesday they were now looking at other players.

The news came on the same day that Villa rejected Liverpool’s latest offer for their skipper.

We should be doing the same by looking elsewhere and please for a winger this time. We will get Barry in January when the dangerously ambitous O'neil realises Villa will never play in the champions league. Use that 13 million to bid for Quaresma/Silva.

Quaresma really doesn't do it for me. He came on the other night and looked normal/average.

Liverpool and Juventus have finally agreed a £14m deal which will see Xabi Alonso head to Italy. (Il Corriere Dello Sport 1529 BST)

sounds pretty much done and dusted

ok people, last 2 seasons... alonso Vs Barry

I love Alonso, the guys class, but he hasnt been doing it consistently like Barry has. Barry will add so much mroe to our team than Xabi did.

if wed brought barry and not sold xabi he woulda been warmiong the bench. so rafa has made one major signing, spending 1 million. wonder who hes saving up his eral money for?  :;):

No it was on some rumor page on some newspaper's website. At least that's where I saw it.

Seems like hes a goner!
Best of luck Xabi and thank for some great memories!
The C/L final penalty that he scored after a rebound and the two goals from his own half 2 seasons in a row will never be forgotton!

Unforunately i feel Rafa has no choice,he is the only player we have who plays in a position where we are rich with quality that we can get good money for!No funds on the table, its a forced sell!
Thanks a lot to the 2 Yank rotten bast@rds for absoultely nothing but hate that grows every day!

Bringing Barry in is not a like for like swap btw like some people are implying. The difference in their games are as night and day!
Not happy to see him go,never happy to see the back of any good servant to the club unfortunately the manager has no choice! :(
YNWA XABI ALONSO!

Not too upset that xabis leaving, he hasnt been at his best for a long long time.

Barry for a replacement is ridiculous though, not happy about that one, costing 15 million as well, way way too much, how about we get a top class natural winger instead

The bit that infuriates me is not actually Xabi leaving, I'm old enough to know players don't play forever in a club.

The irritating things mate, is that we go anywhere in the world, name it Barry, name it Simao, name it Alves, and lesser clubs than us ask VERY IMPORTANT amounts of money for their players, which we struggle to pay.

On the contrary, a bigger club like Liverpool is letting leave their players in a too reasonable price for my liking. Why is this?

I guess its because they didnt need to sell them players, whereas we probably need to sell xabi (or other squad players who will go for a decent amount) to raise funds for new players, and that is what teams are offering, take it or leave it
