Graham Poll ref again on monday :glare: Im sure he said recently the worst moaning players are manures and the worst moaner was one of the chuckle brothers the injured one, Im sure that seabiscuit will be moaning again.

MANCHESTER UNITED V LIVERPOOL - MEET THE REFEREE
Graham Poll of Tring will referee Monday night's clash at Old Trafford between Manchester United and Liverpool.

The 41-year old is one of the Premiership's most experienced officials, with only Dermot Gallagher of the current crop of referees having more years under his belt. Poll though is now the only official in the Premiership to have appeared in both World Cup and European Nations Cup tournaments. He was in Japan for the World Cup, and two years previously he was in the middle for the Euro2000 tournament.

Poll is no stranger to a match between England's most successful club and the pretenders to the throne – Manchester United. This will be his seventh tie between the two clubs in recent seasons, with Liverpool slightly ahead by three wins to Manchester United's two. Although only two of those previous matches have been at Old Trafford, back in April 1998 he sent off Michael Owen during a 1-1 draw and the following year he was in charge of the FA Cup tie which saw two goals in the final minutes as United progressed to the fifth round 2-1.

His last match between Liverpool and Manchester United came at Anfield last season when he failed to give a blatant penalty that would have given Liverpool the chance to level the scores, but he waved away fervent appeals and the visitors went away 2-1 winners.

Poll has already refereed Liverpool and Manchester United this season, he was at Stamford Bridge where Chelsea beat United 1-0, and six days later he was at Anfield as we beat Manchester City 2-1.

His assistants on Monday will be Roy Burton and Robert Lewis with Mark Halsey as the fourth official.

So long as his assistants do not include the woman running the line at Boro last night. She gave an offside that was quite simply astounding.

People,
While on the subject of refs who tended to give decisions against Liverpool, I have just read an article in the Independent. Here is an extract:-

The accents may be different, but for Rafael Benitez the passions will be very familiar at Old Trafford on Monday. He may just hope the referee is better.

Benitez may not have experienced the bitter intensity of a Liverpool-Manchester United derby before, but he expects the atmosphere to resemble the one which he encountered when taking Valencia to Real Madrid's Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

"Everyone is telling me this is the biggest game so far," he said yesterday. "All I hope is that in the future people are saying the same about other matches because that will mean we are doing well and challenging for the title. But I do understand the importance of the game and what the atmosphere will be like. I have been to matches at Old Trafford, remember the atmosphere, and I am looking forward to it."

He added: "I enjoy the atmosphere at English grounds. The fans are excited, they shout at each other, but at the end they walk out together. It is not always like that in Spain. I expect this match will be like it was when Valencia played Real Madrid in recent years. The atmosphere around the game is wonderful, and sometimes the referee is the most important person on the pitch."

That final comment was telling. Last season Valencia were seconds from winning in Madrid when the referee awarded a highly controversial penalty for an alleged push on Raul. Valencia still won the championship, but a group of supporters and shareholders were so incensed they sued the referee for negligence. Yesterday, a Valencia court determined the case could go forward.

It seems that we fans can sue the ref... This will be a landmark case if they get a judgement in their favour!

well that season manure got 10 penalties and riley gave 8 of them. what does that tell you?

I am surprised the F.A don't investigate this sort of things...the statistics just seems incredible!
