Forcing the BNP to admit black and coloured people into their party is laudable, but potentially a dangerous move if society actually wants to keep them on the fringes of politics IMHO. The other parties should count themselves lucky I think that up until now the BNP has been led by the likes of Nick Griffin, and has insisted on modelling itself far too closely on the Brownshirts of Mosely and the Blackshirts of Hitler. Skinheads and "bovver boys" have no place in the political arena of a civilised country, nor do the "repatriation" segments of the BNP mantra.
All that said, there is absolutely no question in my mind that huge swathes of the indigenous population in the Uk feel disenfranchised by the way society is run. There is anger amongst normal working people, some but not all of it justified and if the BNP were to have a make over and make itself a tad more cuddly, then they could potentially pose a huge problem.
How would you do that? Well firstly you'd say that you were standing up for the rights of ALL British people, be they black white Asian or African. If they were born and bred in the Uk, you would shout it from the rooftops that you were THEIR party, campaigning for THEIR needs. You would drop the repatriation nonsense, but ammend the policy to make it more of citizenship with conditions for immigrants that the state reserves the right to revoke in the event of unlawful behaviour. You would be an advocate of an ID sheme whereby people who smuggled themselves into the country wouldn't be eligable for schooling, hospital care or council housing, and you would preach about the responsibility being on the new arrivals to prove where they are from and who they are. You would very likely talk of detaining people in holding areas who couldn't or wouldn't prove who they are, much the Australians do in the outback. You would change the leadership, and no doubt you'd get a black guy and an asian guy to be on the "front bench", you'd talk about people who had paid taxes all their lives being given priority for state provision. You'd promise to come down hard on any lawlessness, recommend that you're going to ensure that "life means life" and all that stuff, and you'd absolutely insist that in British State Schools there was a strct adherence to teaching traditional British values. You'd say that if people wanted to learn about Dwali they should do it in their own time and at their own expense. You'd go on about "backing the troops" and all that stuff, and most likely pledge to concentrate some effort into celebrating St Georges day with a bit more gusto.
Unless the powers that be pay more heed to what a sizeable percentage of the population are saying, sooner or later the BNp will get its act together. when they do they will be extremely dangerous, and those powers that be will only have themselves to blame.
