Yes I'd be amazed if Crouch came back to be honest. He couldn't get a game in our biggest matches even when he was demonstrably the best striker at the club, and no sooner had he found the form of his life than he was overcome with a bout of extreme dizziness and had to sit down again. By the time his World had righted itself the bycicle kicks were a distant memory as his confidence had to be built up again. He was presumeably fit for the fabled "big games at the end of the season" having been "delayed gazelled", but unfortunately for him and us we decided not to play him anyway.

Crouch isn't what we need anyway IMHO. We need someone who can fill for EITHER Torres or Gerrard. In English football as I've said a few times it would be Robin Van persie, Tevez, Rooney etc. If we are skint, it could be Tuncay. If we want someone from abroad, feck knows. It isn't Crouch though, and I'm fairly sure he wouldn't come even if it was.

I see Owen got another couple in a friendly. How many goals/what would he have to do to make his signing look like a good one for Man Utd and one in the eye for us, and vice versa?

It's not a matter of goals, not for me, because I never doubted his quality.

It's a matter of him staying fit all the season or most of it, which is what has doomed him in the last years, IMHO.

I never desire injuries for anyone, even archrival players, but this time I'm tempted, because if he's fit, he'll be an important player for them.

It makes me angry every time I here that Owen has scored for scum it makes me more and more mad. I am not sure whether he would work in our system or not, I'm not interested in discussing why he should or should not have come to us. But the fact is I hate him playting for Man United and if he scores a decent amount of goals for them and they win the league then I will be very very :censored:

off. If he scores against us I'll be so angry for far to long.

I hope plays really badly for them and gets dropped. I could say I hope he gets injured just to prove Rafa right and whiskey bollox wrong but I suppose that's a little unfair. Or is it? :angry:

I couldn't quantify it and I'm not so invested in one side or the other of the debate to take great pleasure either way but, surely, we can only start taking stock once the season starts? Sure, he's in good scoring form now but the discussion only really starts if he carries that form over into the season or not. That's my view.

Sir Alex Ferguson has accused Liverpool and England of burning out Michael Owen during the early years of his career.

The Manchester United manager signed the 29-year-old on a free transfer and claims that the striker was over-worked following his arrival on the international scene with the England Under-20 squad in Asia back in 1997.

Ferguson claims that had he been in charge of Owen's career at the time that things would have been done differently.

“We had Ronnie Wallwork and John Curtis playing in that England Under-20 squad in Malaysia in 1997 and when they came back we gave them six weeks off," said Ferguson.

“But Michael went straight into the Liverpool first team then a year later was playing in the World Cup for England.

“That was unfair to a young player to have that kind of strain and intensity one summer after another.

“I wouldn’t have done that but he was such a talent that Liverpool needed him in the team and then England needed him in the World Cup.”

Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has revealed that he thinks bitter rivals Manchester United signing of Michael Owen was a great bit of business.

The striker swapped relegated Newcastle United for the English champions in one of the shock moves of the summer, but Carragher believes it is a shrewd move by the Red Devils.

“Signing Michael Owen was a clever piece of business by United and he has started really well for them in pre-season,” he told the Sunday Mirror.

“In a way, I am pleased he's got a move to a big club, because he came in for a lot of criticism at Newcastle.

“Why? What did the lad do wrong up there? For me, Michael Owen is still a great player and a great role model and I have this feeling he'll be good for United.”

Carragher also revelaed that he was still good friends with Owen and hoped he would do well at his new club.

“Michael is a good friend of mine, but he plays for our biggest rivals now so he'll know I won't want him to carry on scoring once the season starts,” he admitted.

“He's scored a lot of goals in the first few games for United and I hope he scores a few more pre-season, because I want him to do well."

The 31-year-old also insisted that, despite the loss of Cristiano Ronaldo, United would still prove to be tough opposition next season.

“I don't expect United to be weaker, just because they've lost Ronaldo,” he explained.

“They still have Wayne Rooney, who is one of the best players in the world, and a very solid midfield with players like Michael Carrick.

“Only a fool would say it's going to be a weaker United.”
