HDMI has nothing to do with graphics, merely the clarity of the graphical signal to the tv, and anyway the 360 has had HDMI for a long time as well.

Roughly the two consoles are more or less the same graphically: multi platform titles tend to be slightly better on the 360 whereas the PS3 has a (debatable) tiny advantage where the game has been designed from the ground up for it (such as Killzone 2 and arguably Uncharted).

It really doesn't matter if the 360 has been there for longer. It's been out roughly a year longer than PS3. That's where Sony f*cked it up and are still trying to recover now three years into the console's lifespan. Normally consoles have a shelve life of 5 years before a new one comes out. 360 will be entering it's 5th fairly soon. This gen was all about numbers for MS, and they succeeded. Their next gen console could be the machine that does to Sony what Sony did to Nintendo and Sega in the mid 90's. Stalwarts like Tekken, Final Fantasy, MGS, PES, Tomb Raider and several others have already been bought up by MS to appear on their machines when they were solely recognized as Sony IP's. It's only a matter of time before Polyphony Digital follow suit with Gran Turismo. But not this gen. Speaking of which, anyone who bought a PS3 on the strength of that title alone must be feeling pretty f*cked off right now. PS3 has been out three years now and there is not a sign of the new GT 5 for at least another year, the fourth year after the console's release. Pathetic considering it's renowned as a massive draw of Sony's for it's fanbase. It was one of the games that showcased the PS3 at E3 several years back along with those botched CGI bullsh*t demos. The only game I'd own a PS3 for at the moment would be KZ2, but to be fair COD: Modern Warfare 2 will be out soon, so.

I'd say the 360 has been possibly the best console since the SNES if you go by the sheer amount of quality games released for it over the last two years, although the N64 easily had the best first two years of any system as far as quality of it's games were concerned so it's hard to choose between the two. The 64 was a special console though. I wish games could be that good again, although having said that, I'm currently engrossed with Fallout 3. Best game I've played in years.

I wouldnt say that. Its possibly the best available on the market at the moment simply because its between the other competitors (Nintendo Wii and PS3) and also the amount of games available. I remember when the Wii was first released and we wanted to get one for the kids at christmas. We had no chance, everywhere we went they were sold out. When they finally became avalable they were now in bundles. You couldnt get the Wii on its own, you had to buy it with games or other stuff that you dont want. And after trying it at peoples house who did manage to get it, you realised it wasnt all its cracked up to be.

The PS3, the price put a lot of people off. They made the right noises, showing what it can do (ie. Final Fantasy 7 remake clip) but then said that they are not making a new one they are just showing what it can do. At over £400 a console, you expect better for it than clips of films that can be run on it. Even now yes more games are available but is it really worth all that money? people who own one will sing its praises but could the same satisfaction from a game be gotten from a similar console that saves you money to buy other games?

Which brings me to the 360. As I said it was in between the prices of the Wii and PS3. The deciding factors for us was 1: the price and 2: The range of games, new or 2nd hand, it was just generally affordable and offered a lot more than the other 2.

The best time for consoles was definately the N64 and PS1 eras. Both consoles had a lot going for them which created a lot of which is better? N64 or PS1? Even then we are still not counting the Gameboy, which is possibly the biggest selling console ever. At this moment in time though, the 360 is the winner.

I'd definitely say the SNES was the best console ever created in respect to whatever generation there has been in regards to games and technical ability for the time. The SNES just didn't break the rules, it bent them and made up new ones on it's own. It was competing with a lot of so called 32-bit (and one so called 64-bit) next gen hardware from various companies at the time, and still managed to trump them in it's later life before the PSX inevitably killed it completely. It wasn't meant to do polygons or texture mapping. That was next gen stuff, but it did. That's sort of like a Gameboy (the old green screen one) doing stuff a PSP is currently doing now, albeit far more limited obviously. Not to mention the games which are now absolutely legendary, plus it had the first almost arcade perfect Street Fighter 2 home port. Enough said there.

The N64 started out amazing. It blew everything away as far as games were concerned and was easily the most exciting system I ever owned. Some games on that console have still to be beaten today, which says it all. The PSX was an amazing console for what it offered, but for a progressive experience, the N64 battered it. It's just a shame the system was drip fed quality titles that eventually stagnated and killed it in the end, but for the gems it had, there's been none better. Body Harvest, Goldeneye, Blastcorps, Pilotwings, Zelda, Mario 64, Banjo, Wave Race, Turok, I could go on. Each one a unique experience the PSX just couldn't offer. The only thing it lacked was a decent racing car game.

You weren't a Mario Kart fan? :D.

I'd not just say Goldeneye was the best game on the N64, but probably the best game ever created on a console. It didn't reinvent the genre, but it did raise the bar so high that it took something special to beat it. In terms of gameplay and replayability, it was second to none. I must have spent at least two years playing that game, something I'd never do with any game today.

No arguments from me, the best game by far, especially the multi-player. We use to play it 2 v 2 in the front room with 2 TVs, a splitter and covers over half of the screen so you couldn't see the other team's screen plus you had to have the scanners off......and a big block of dope!

They were the days, we use to play that game for 7-8 hours at a time, absolutely quality entertainment  :bowdown

Defender   Thats nothing compared to Millipede ! Lets be honest, as games were evolving, they werent great but they were bloody addictive ! If you compare games today compared to games yesterday, then yesterday wins. Today, you have graphics and top the of art technology, back then you had imagination. In the ZX Spectrum days, that computer ruled over the better ones graphically as it had better ideas and more thought was put into what people wanted. Robocop came out on the ole speccy and the C64, the speccy one was better. No colour, all monochrome, but the programmers (Ocean) put in the effort to make it playable. With the C64 they added colour but it seemed lame to the spectrum as, although colour was added, it was a poor effort and you never got the same appreciation for the game.

Goldeneye was awesome. I unlocked everything on that game, the worst was the running through the Archive level. That took me bloody ages to do !

Some good points there guys, I think that Sony deffo need a price drop even though there are a few decent PS3 exclusives now, Killzone 2 and LBP are two good examples :)
