Keane speaks

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Robbie Keane claims he would have been a success at Liverpool if Rafael Benitez had not been manager.

The striker returned to Tottenham in January after failing to impress Anfield boss Benitez in a miserable six months at the club following his £20.3million move from White Hart Lane.

Keane had previously insisted he had no axe to grind with Benitez, but today told Icon magazine: "I do believe with a different manager it would have worked for me, but different managers have different methods and some have different ideas than those you are used to or believe in.

"People have their own opinions of Benitez. I have nothing against him and will leave people to make up their own minds. When you've been around for a while as a player, all you want is a bit of respect and to be treated the way you feel you deserve to be."

Keane has enjoyed a new lease of life since returning to Spurs. With Jermain Defoe sidelined with a foot injury, Keane is beginning to form a productive partnership with Darren Bent, leaving Roman Pavlyuchenko on the bench.

P.S. If this is in the wrong place mods i apologise  :D

Who really knows what has happened - i think rafa did rate him as a player - he wouldnt of bought him otherwise but think something happened between them or maybe rafa just saw that he didnt fit into the plans rafa had for the team.

Why spend 20m on Keane in the summer only to sell him in Jan, it doesn't make any sense.

Keane was understandably angry at being subbed time after time even when players like Kuyt played cack and were still kept on.

Something has to have happened between them.

Regardless of what happened, Rafa made a huge mistake selling him when we had no quality cover in the striking department.

So you don't think it was a mistake to sell Keane in the middle of the season?

Was it fook a big mistake to sell him,It made complete sense.Benitez probably rated him at spurs but personally I think in his first month he was at the club something happened or Benitez knew he wouldn't fit into the team he is building plus some kind of personality clash with him.

Keane thought he was a main stay and wouldn't be subbed and cried at being subbed and I think Benitez thought no mate your not for me on your bike back down the m6.
So benitez had to get rid as soon as to recoup the money.

P.s I have herd he wants the money to go towards Carlos Tevez so watch this space

Keane was becoming a huge distraction every time he didn't play or was subbed, do you not remember what January was like? And it wasn't like he was bringing in bags of goals either when he did play. Also, there is a chance that if he continued playing poorly for 6 more months and was 6 months older, his price tag would have fallen

 Half the people saying what a good idea it was to get rid of Keane were creaming their drawers when we signed him.

I said he wouldn't score 20 goals for us and that he wasn't what we needed and got dogs abuse for it.

Now he suddenly becomes too big for his boots, a distraction

As I said it just makes me laugh

I wouldn't have got rid of keane, I didn't think he was a 20 goal per season striker either, I just thought he would compliment Torres alot as a strike partner and would a really good job. Unfortunately Rafa didn't see it that way and we sold him :(
