I read a book the other day from a "finacial expert" to which he thinks this recession will last another ten years. And gave all reasons as to why, and he doesnt call this a recession, its being termed as the 'Great depression'.

But I kind of agree with Daws in a way, petrol has stopped rising over here and and has gone down, therefore groceries and the like arent any dearer. I'm a Home owner on the Gold Coast and the banks are slashing the interest rates from originally 9% down to 6%. Nobody seems to be spending, and things like Cars and Homes are much cheaper over here than they were in the Boom days.

Happy Days I reckon. :)

Well I’ve got no mortgage, no kids or any real debts to speak. As some have already said, as long as you’ve got food on the table, a roof over your head and your health…you need nothing else.

If I got laid off I think I’d be tempted to do a bit of travelling or something, and use it as a positive opportunity. But I think I’m safe from getting redundant…unless my boss is checking how many times I post on here during the day.
:D

Chin up fella.

I know it might not seem like it at the moment, but things will improve. I was chatting to some money men from Ford the other day and they think things will pick up towards the end of the year.

I don’t know your personal circumstances (if you have kids/mortgage etc) but if I was in your shoes I would use this as an opportunity to try something new. Go back to study? Take a season job in a ski resort? Go travelling? Do something that will give your life some new direction.

There is work out there, and if you can’t afford to do any of the above, maybe now is the time to try your hand to a new profession. As a store manager you will have gained lots of skills that would appeal to a huge number of professions.

Dundalk

Don't forget that in Ireland as a condition of the recapitalisation of the banks that they cannot reposess a home within a year of you stopping any payments, so if you cannot afford to pay the mortgage, you have a year to get yourself sorted.

There are various advice centres and although sometimes people are reluctant to claim the dole when they lose their job, get your stuff sorted immediately to get paid as soon as you can, plus whatever tax you pay in January and February will be refundable (but not sure if you have to wait until the year is over)

There are still some jobs being created at the moment too.

good luck.

Keep your options open when applying for job; you’ll be surprised at just how many different types of work your experience will appeal to.
