Jermaine pennant - off to valencia on a bosman

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

England is a major shirt in Europe. Positions like midfield have men like Gerrard. The CB position is very expensive too, ask Carra, a man who'd be a Spanish international with no doubt had he had a Spanish passport.

But at the time Pennan's position in England was covered by Shawn Wright Phillips, IIRC, and Pennant playing well, many of us wondered why SWP had a starting eleven position while Pennant hadn't a chance in a friendly.

It's not that Pennant has shown anything worth a major team internationaly like England, it's that at the time the position wasn't very expensive. (Just as Spanish LB nowadays is not expensive)

Yes, http://www.marca.com/

but instead of talking about that club in this sacred section, I'll open tonite a thread in the international section.

I will try to explain the scandal, some funny videos of the scandal, I think you all can have a laugh. See you there later for more explanations  :D

Pennant was never anywhere near the England squad Sabre, and rightly so.  Pennant's comments at the time were out of the blue, and not even Liverpool fans thought his form at the time was good enough to warrant a call-up.

John, that's why I said I  (and Sabre :D) maybe the minority here bcos I did believe he deserved THAT particular call-up. I remember it was a continuation of fine form from the season before (incl UCL final). I honestly don't care if he got to play no part in any of the games he was hoping to be chosen for.. but I thought a call-up was appropriate for he was having the form of his life during that time IMHO.

If it is purely for footballing reason, I seriously don't think Pennant is so bad till a point where he should have TOTALLY no part to play at all in our team.

Afterall, Sabre pointed out and I agree that he is different from Kuyt.. and obviously can offer something different. As meticulous as Rafa can be, wouldn't he be of some use in some games, against some opponents? Afterall, it is Rafa who picked him DESPITE his notoriety prior to joining to Liverpool!

Highly debatable and I maybe slated to death for this :D but I think as volatile as Fergie is, he still objectively uses players he "dislikes" to achieve his goals while they are still around. But you can be sure they will be first out the door when the opportunities come or adequate replacements found.. eg: Beckham, Jaap Stam.

On the other hand, when Rafa loses his faith in you.. you maybe physically around the team, but your days are CLEARLY numbered.. with little to no playing time given to you. Crouch is the best example & Pennant too.

i find it hilarious the amount of Liverpool fans who say that Pennants not good enough and average etc etc but think that Kuyts a good player and offers more on the rught

This thread should be closed. It's not really good news it is. If anything its confirmation of bad news that we are going to get shafted in the summer and that means less £ for Rafa to spend.

I dunno mate but you'd think he'd be glad of a chance of playing every week!Obviously the thought of getting up on a saturday morning with a nosebleed and hangover and having to actually do something does'nt suit him!

Get him out to fu'ck! :nod

Jermaine Pennant looks set to turn down a move to Portsmouth despite Liverpool accepting a bid for the player.

Speaking this afternoon the Pennant made clear:

"My preference is to stay in Liverpool and I'm still hoping to do so.

"There has been a lot of speculation about my future but I've always maintained my position that I'm happy to compete for my place here and I hope I am given the chance to do so."

Pennant signed for Liverpool for £6.7million in 2006 and has made 81 appearances - including a Champions League final in 2007.

In recent weeks the speedy winger has seen himself linked with European powerhouses AC MIlan, Sevilla and Real Madrid although clubs closer to home such as Hull City and Stoke also expressed an interest.

In other words:

'Given my addictions to gambling and alcohol I feel that I am obliged to try and make as much money as possible from my short footballing career, especially given that I am such a stupid fu.ck I will struggle to find any sort of future employment after playing.

Since no other club will be paying me anywhere near the 60k I'm getting at the moment, I feel that rather than further my career and move to another Premiership team, or even Real Madrid or AC Milan, it makes sense for me to get paid for nothing here until the end of the season when I can leave for free and get another big pay day.  Happy days.  By the way, I'm a Liverpool fan you know.'

Just seen this!

100% bang on the money!

I hate him nearly as much as Kewell!

Nah mate he would rather wait till the summer where he will get more wages wise plus I know I would rather live in Milan than Portsmouth.

Cant believe we even went for him tbh. If Arsene Wenger could not get him to play well what hope did Rafa have. Not saying Wenger is a better manager than Rafa but it's not like Wengers players are 'untalanted'.
