All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

he doesnt have a place to fight for . Why doesnt he take the hint that he isnt needed as we keep accepting bids for him . Pennant is perfect example of what happens when you have to settle for second best target - not good enough .

Poor Jermaine, you know you don't have a place here why fight for it?  Should have accepted the deal imo.

Pennant fight for his place? :D  He lost that battle ages ago!

I can't stand these players who are obviously not wanted yet insist on staying for no reason other than their pay packet.

I never wanted him here in the first place or Benayoun for that matter.  Neither good enough for LFC.

I think the only reason he wanted to stay is because we are top of table. This is probably the last chance he could come so close to the title. If in fact he had signed a pre contract with Seville or AC, he surely would prefer to stay and do nothing while have a chance to win a medal as if he had contributed anything at all. This is like Freddy as if he always comes back from the dead.

Jermaine Pennant looks set to turn down a move to Portsmouth despite Liverpool accepting a bid for the player.

Speaking this afternoon the Pennant made clear:

"My preference is to stay in Liverpool and I'm still hoping to do so.

"There has been a lot of speculation about my future but I've always maintained my position that I'm happy to compete for my place here and I hope I am given the chance to do so."

Pennant signed for Liverpool for £6.7million in 2006 and has made 81 appearances - including a Champions League final in 2007.

In recent weeks the speedy winger has seen himself linked with European powerhouses AC MIlan, Sevilla and Real Madrid although clubs closer to home such as Hull City and Stoke also expressed an interest.

In other words:

'Given my addictions to gambling and alcohol I feel that I am obliged to try and make as much money as possible from my short footballing career, especially given that I am such a stupid fu.ck I will struggle to find any sort of future employment after playing.

Since no other club will be paying me anywhere near the 60k I'm getting at the moment, I feel that rather than further my career and move to another Premiership team, or even Real Madrid or AC Milan, it makes sense for me to get paid for nothing here until the end of the season when I can leave for free and get another big pay day.  Happy days.  By the way, I'm a Liverpool fan you know.'

Sabre wrote:Mixed feelings.

In one hand I have the belief he had to leave as his contribution has not been good enough, and some of it's attitudes haven't been good enough neither.

But I have a sad feeling aswell. The sad feeling of seeing how a player that could have progressed and evolved into something very good, has stopped growing.

I am really not sure how he could even grow if he can't even get onto the pitch .. well, almost "all of a sudden".

I believe I am the minority here but I think most fans have very short memories IMHO. I actually remember he did mostly well (sometimes even brilliant) when he was given the chance. I honestly remember him as a constant threat down the right making decent crosses, whenever he plays. And how about his "MOM" peformance in UCL final 2007?

And then his involvement just STOPPED.

I honestly don't understand and don't agree how Kuyt is better than Pennant on the right-hand side.

Of cos we will have no exact idea what happens behind the scene but (without appearing to defend him - which I am NOT) I would argue that not many players (bad boys or not) would be able to take some of Rafa's "cold shoulder" treatment easily.. So there is no point bashing him for that. Crouch, Bellamy, Cisse have all seen the same things before.. and I kinda feel Agger, Babel and Keane are also arguably in that category now.

Of cos it is pretty obvious his attitude sucks or what but EVERYONE (rafa included) knows he was an :censored: before he came anyway. He will go down in my book as another one of those strange signings by Rafa that actually did ok but suddenly got "shelved and shipped out".. without really clear reasons (to me at least).

Like Sabre, I feel sad for him bcos I truly believe he was (and still is) a MORE THAN DECENT player. Good luck to him.

If he is happy to 'fight for his place' then he should be happy to sign a new contract so he doesnt leave for free come the summer which is what he will do if he doesnt go now.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.

No, Milou, you don't remember badly that.

In fact, Pennant's game reached to a point in which he was almost on the fringe to be selected for the english squad. I remember some quotes of him saying how dissapointed he was for not being summoned. NOt that his crosses were superb, but I remember members here admitting he was playing well and just asked more goals contribution, being in the right place to score.

But at some point, that will to grow stopped. Whether it's Rafa's fault or just his fault I don't know. But I think he could have been a very good player, and now he's just a lazy player.

As for the comparison with Kuyt, I don't compare them, they're too different. :)

But he rejected them. Just cause we've accepted a bid from Portsmouth, dont mean he's off....

thought that would happen!!

Pennant was never anywhere near the England squad Sabre, and rightly so.  Pennant's comments at the time were out of the blue, and not even Liverpool fans thought his form at the time was good enough to warrant a call-up.
