Jermaine pennant - off to valencia on a bosman

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I'M GLAD HE'S GONE. I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THE DECISION TO SELL HIM.

That said, I wouldn't be at all surprised if he goes well down there. He'll play regularly, he'll be a big fish in a small pond and I wouldn't be surprised if his arrival gives Peter Crouch the opportunity to continue scoring regularly. At his best Pennant is a decent player, at his worst a tool piece but he'll be one of their better ones.

Nice to see Crouch continuing to score goals ina  fairly ordinary team. I think he's got eight in the league this season after a slow start, four in Europe and one in the FA Cup the other day. Nice lad Crouch and a good player, good luck to him.

Gotta say Pompey is one side I could see him agreeing to join - why they'd want him I'm not sure. Maybe foresight would have suggested we give him and Crouch as a package deal and we'd be long rid, maybe even got a bit more wonga for him

He hasn't gone yet though!

We've accepted bids for him before (stoke I think?)

But he rejected them. Just cause we've accepted a bid from Portsmouth, dont mean he's off....

Mixed feelings.

In one hand I have the belief he had to leave as his contribution has not been good enough, and some of it's attitudes haven't been good enough neither.

But I have a sad feeling aswell. The sad feeling of seeing how a player that could have progressed and evolved into something very good, has stopped growing.

Good riddance as far as I'm concerned.  He undoubtedly has talent, but couldn't cut it at a big club.  He can't be relied on to do a job for the team and imo is a bottler.

I think he'll find his level at Portsmouth and do well for them though if he signs.

Now let's buy a quality right winger and give Kuyt a good rest :p

He does the job but it's an position we badly need to fill with a genuine wide player.

We would be much more threatening with a pacey, skilful player on the flanks.  Kuyt sadly, possesses neither attribute.

Yep, looks like he wants to stay and fight for his place, ah well

http://www.sport.co.uk/news....ol.aspx

Jermaine Pennant looks set to turn down a move to Portsmouth despite Liverpool accepting a bid for the player.

Speaking this afternoon the Pennant made clear:

"My preference is to stay in Liverpool and I'm still hoping to do so.

"There has been a lot of speculation about my future but I've always maintained my position that I'm happy to compete for my place here and I hope I am given the chance to do so."

Pennant signed for Liverpool for £6.7million in 2006 and has made 81 appearances - including a Champions League final in 2007.

In recent weeks the speedy winger has seen himself linked with European powerhouses AC MIlan, Sevilla and Real Madrid although clubs closer to home such as Hull City and Stoke also expressed an interest.
