What a difference a week makes - Best midfield in the premiership?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby 7_Kewell » Fri Aug 20, 2004 7:10 pm

things are looking up at last.  I would still like to see a striker come in (on loan maybe?) but i think we have a squad that will at least take us to christmas in the front.  If we need to improve, then the Jan window will let Rafa improve.

On a different note, am i the only one who wants to see Partridge start against Man city? :Oo:

Our defence played a good game against Spurs, much tighter and much more organised.  with an improved midfield, i think the service will enable Cisse and Baros to gel and get confidence.  I honestly believe if these guys get the confidence of a couple of goals, they will be a potent striking force. :;):

I agree if Cisse can get another goal this weekend he'll be off and running, we just need Baros to whack one into the net and he'll be oof towards this years player of the season and top goalscorer!!!

Baros isn't good enough.

We should play one upfront. That one should be Cisse. We need a player who can play off him and a right winger.

Maybe Garcia and Nunez are these players.

Stu can you be any more of a pessamist? With this midfield this will alows Baros to score, strikers need to be fed by midfield in order for them to score. Obiviously Cisse is the only striker that has been scoring but I am sure with the improved midfield Baros can do his job. We look rock solid right now, its amazing how things change in three weeks.

stu may have a point.. despite baros great form in the euros and huge potential, he is still quite raw and never played to a similar level consistently in the prem. the only way he will get better tho is to play game after game and we may have to be patient but i dont mind that as when he finds his way he may prove to be an adequate replacement for owens direct play and dribbling ability. his finishing is his best asset and when he improves his touch and awareness he will be the complete package imo.

rafa has often played with 1 striker tho and this may be why he appears not to be desperate to sign another

Playing Cisse as a lone frontman would be a seriously stupid thing to do. Baros will start banging them in from all angles soon.

im just saying it worked for rafa in la liga and with attacking wingers like kewell and garcia we could see it again. less 4-5-1 and more 4-3-3

Baros will make good if we give him adequate support from midfield. He did show it at Euro 04. Will he make us forget Michael Owen...time will tell.
For the time being, I will keep faith with him.
Alonso's capture was definately the highlight of the Spanish signings (adter Benitez of course)...now if only we could land Mista :;):

XSD, thats the possibility i'm thinking of.

Totally agree considering thats how he's played since he broke into Auxerre's team.

A pessamist? You clearly don't know me lad. I'm a realist. Baros is NOWHERE NEAR Owen's class and i mean nowhere near. He's a good player, Owen is a world class player. The difference is immense. Even when Owen was at his worst he was a goal threat, Baros does nothing at all in some games. Yes he tries, but effort doesn't make up for a lack of class.

stu you reckon i no nothing about football look who is talking ( baros no good one up front) wasn't we all moaning about negative boring football when we played one up front last season are you gerrard h in disguise

Erm... Hello? Valencia played with one upfront, so do Arsenal. Are they negative teams? Get a ****** clue ya tool.

The idiots were moaning about playing one upfront, not the knowledgable fans. Ian Rush played on his own for years as did Aldridge.
