CHELSEA VS LIVERPOOL - We can do it!

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Well I hope Torres is on bench for saturday, though I still think he should be rested.

Hopefully we can get a result against chelsea, 0-0 draw would be ideal, but if we can win I won't be the one complaining :D

I think psychologically, Torres as sub, unused would be an interesting twist!

XABI ALONSO believes Liverpool will shatter Chelsea’s stunning home run — and end an unwanted record of their own.

The Blues have notched a staggering 86 unbeaten Premier League games at Stamford Bridge dating back to February 2004, when Alonso was still a Real Sociedad player.

Liverpool have managed just one league win there in 16 years — their worst record against top-flight clubs.

But Alonso reckons the rot will stop after the Reds stretched their unbeaten start to 16 games with Wednesday’s 1-1 Champions League draw at Atletico Madrid.

Liverpool travel to Stamford Bridge for Sunday’s table-topping showdown.

And the Spanish midfielder insisted: “We won’t be going there with any fear. We respect them as a very good side but are confident in our own ability and believe we can win.

“We know they haven’t been beaten at home in the league for four years but records have to be broken eventually. We’re ready to get a good result.

“We have more strength in depth and confidence than before. And we are right to be confident after the results we have had this season.

“We expect a tough game but we go into every one expecting to win and Sunday will be no different. Hopefully, we can be the team to end their unbeaten home record.”

Alonso also reckons the Kop are still on a high after beating Manchester United in September.

He added: “Beating United in our first big test of the season was important for our confidence.

“Becoming the first team to beat Chelsea at home in the league after all this time would put us in a great position and would send out an important statement.”

Liverpool have had to come from behind to avoid defeat FIVE times already this season.

Alonso insisted: “We can’t afford to start slowly like we have done in some games. We need to concentrate for 90 minutes because they can punish you at any time.

“But we won’t prepare by thinking about last season’s Champions League semi-final when we lost 3-2 after extra-time at Chelsea. We won’t use that defeat as extra motivation.

“This is a new season and both teams have new targets.”

I think Howard Webb is the ref now which is good as he's the best around imo.

I agree, Webb is probably the best ref. Although I think in general we are a bit harsh on refs who have one look at incidents while we judge them on replays, or from what people have said about replays, showing up their 'mistakes'. If 90% or more of us would have made said same 'mistake' in the same position then why hang, draw and quarter the lot of them every time? That said Styles, Rennie and one or two others tend to get more wrong than most.

You would think for a big four clash that the best refs would be on show, except when fergie requests Mike Riley or one of the other refs under his employ

Nevertheless, we'll be champions elect if we win, and out of the title race, dead and buries if we lose though!!

In November!

Would love a win - A draw would be a good result but think we may end up loosing this one - but that would not the end of it all as think we can beat them at our place . But head saying we will loose. :(

Are we to honestly believe our players are knackered?

It's only October! It's bonkers to think our players could be knackered.

It's either bollox or they are doing too much in training.
