The main advantage we have over chelsea is that rafa is in his last year, Scolari is in his first, and in that, we will win. A victory for us and a situation we havent been in for years !

I think RB will fancy a bit of 'styling' in madrid.. lets hope his decision doesnt back fire..
But i have a feeling we will challenge strongly for leading the table at this stage.. dont think we lead the table that much in recent history.. :D

Can't see us getting anything more than a draw without torres :( . But then again, we beat United without him or Gerrard, so i guess you can never tell :blues:

Won't be easy, could be crucial. They have a fairly sizeable GD advantage on us already, to put three points between us as well even at this early stage could be damaging.

Rafa vs Chelsea

Overall P20 W5 D6 L9 F15 A22
Home P8 W3 D3 L2 F7 A7
Away P9 W0 D3 L6 F2 A10
Neutral P3 W2 D0 L1 F6 A5

Premiership P8 W1 D2 L5 F4 A10
Home P4 W1 D1 L2 F4 A6 PTS 4
Away P4 W0 D1 L3 F0 A4 PTS 1

Away under Rafa we've not so much as scored at Stamford Bridge in the league.

Last Three Five Wins At Stamford Bridge

07/01/04 Chelsea 0-1 Liverpool
16/12/89 Chelsea 2-5 Liverpool
03/05/86 Chelsea 0-1 Liverpool
31/08/74 Chelsea 0-3 Liverpool
29/12/73 Chelsea 0-1 Liverpool

Just five wins in 35 years, last time we won at Stamford Bridge, CHEYROU scored the winner! The last five seasons we won at Stamford Bridge :

03/04 4th
89/90 Champions
85/86 Champions
74/75 Runners-Up
73/74 Runners-Up

Just a bit trickier this time around. I reckon we should go with the 'unlikely scorer' theme, maybe El Zhar on as sub or Robbie Keane. Or perhaps a Xabi Alonso free kick, after he's got someone sent off of course! Talking of which, I've seen some muppet on ITV teletext suggesting that Alonso is in some way getting these players sent off. No never mind that he's the VICTIM of their fouls. You go in with two feet, or on a yellow card alreay, and you run the risk of getting sent off. Alonso doesn't force them to foul him.

I agree Owzat.

I don't say "must win" about many games...but this is a "must win" game. Chelsea's GD is growing and I don't think Liverpool will catch them on that, unless they get a 6-0 result like against Derby last year.

So, point difference is definitely what Rafa should be aiming for.

I don't care how they win it...just win it.

Agreed.

I'm presently drawing up the teamsheet. Will you organise the tactics?

Sure, I'm still deciding wether to raise the menatality bar to attacking or  putting it down to defencive and clicking check on the box with the counter attack option

hmm...

looking forwards to this game, im not sure that after kuyt has scored those 2 goals to play him uptop still with keane or to play a formation that looks like this:

                            Riena

Arbeloa         Carra           Agger        Aurelio

                   Alonso       Mascherano

Kuyt                     Gerrard                    Riera

                            Keane

Subs to come on: Benayioun, Babel and El Zhar

mind you....i was very impressed with pennant against wigan and don't forget he has scored against chelsea before  :buttrock

We should look for the win, but a draw wouldn't be the worst result away from home against a side that loses at home about once in 100 games these days!

This could be the point at which our season takes the usual turn for the worse, we go a few games and win too few which puts us behind. Then we repeat it a few more games down the line and we're out of the title race. This can be the game in which we show we're in it for the long haul. These days the title race is more like a marathon sprint, stop winning for more than a game or three and you're off the pace, do that more than once and you'll be out of it. Chelsea won't be beaten that often this season, neither will the mancs. We have to be as unrelenting as they are.

A draw will still leave Liverpool with a lot of work to do (not that a win will get them completely out the woods of course).

Your right, Chelsea won't lose many games this season. In fact, if I'm honest, they'll win the league if they keep on trucking like they are (and I think they will get this year). But I'd love to see Liverpool strike them a blow and get a win, even if that's 1-0 borefest.

It'll see them 3 points clear, with an excellent position to build on for a real title challenge.

If Liverpool do Chelsea, you'll hear me shouting from Dublin.  :buttrock     :buttrock     :buttrock
