Jermaine pennant - off to valencia on a bosman

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby woof woof ! » Sat Apr 05, 2008 3:24 pm

Never wanted Pennant when he came to us but then thought I might have been a bit harsh and he was gradually working his way towards an acceptable LFC standard as his performances began to improve. Today however any goodwill I may have started to feel towards the fella went right out the window. He absolutely 100% does not have what it takes to claim a position in our senior squad. I get the feeling that the fact he's at LFC and is earning silly money every week is for him an achievement in itself and there's no need to try any harder . A Fu*king waster ! Big fish at Birmingham, a shrimp at Liverpool.

I didn't see the match today John so I can't really comment on today's performance... but I've been saying for sometime now that he's just too dumb to be any good in a top club. Coupled with his behavioral track record, we should have never touched him.... even with an extra long barge pole....

I've been one of his biggest fans since he arrived Con, but today he really disappointed me. He wasn't alone in that respect, all our attacking wide players (Pennant, Benayoun, Riise and Voronin) were poor, but Pennant especially.

Riise can't run or pass.
Benayoun couldn't of controlled a bag of cement today and Voronin was a disgrace.

Two maybe three golden opportunites wasted by Voronin. I defended him when people were having a go at him for Wednesday because he only had 10 minutes to make an impact and although he didn't have much longer today, he did have two great opportunites as well as a free shot from the edge of the box, none of the three hit the target.

As for Penannt...well I don't really wanna criticse to strongly but he was :censored: useless and that's putting it lightly. Nothing he did seem to work, maybe it's because he isn't match fit but that's no excuse for a professional to play as badly as he did today. He really was poor, and although I still think he has it in him, it will take a breath taking performance to make forget today.

Ah mate...... In this, we have to disagree.... I just don't rate him at all.... he's too mentally fragile. We need better IMO.

Paul Anderson is the answer.

:D

How did I know you were going to say that John?

You could be right.... I've never really seen him in action but he can't be worst than Jermaine can he? IMO of course.

I know that you had your tongue firmly in cheek with that, woof but I absolutely agree..... Lightweight Luis is a much better option down the right if it came down to a choice between the 2.

I'm starting to lost patience with him now. Like I've said, I've been one of his biggest fans but today he was useless. Considering he was meant to be a Liverpool supporter as a lad, he should be running his heart out for the club, he isn't and although he's been 2nd choice behind Kuyt recently, when he does get a chance he should be taking it with both hands. Today he didn't.

Hands aren't yet in the air, because I'm still trying to defend him that given a run in the side his performances may pick up like they were towards the backend of last season, but he really disappointed today.
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

He looks like a young Lionel Richie.

He called me once. I said "Hello....is it me you're looking for?"

Therein lies a problem, if you didn't want a player signed in the first place then it is only human not to really be able to get behind them. I feel sorry for the players who get so much stick when people DID want them in the first place.

I'm happier when I'm not sure, with the likes of Mascherano, Skrtel, Agger etc as I don't feel one way or the other. I didn't think Pennant was quality enough, nor Crouch for that matter, and both have not reached Liverpool standards. Crouch has some good games, usually when the defences are stupid enough to give him space or he hits one sweetly every now and then as is his wont.

But the key to any player is this question - would a big club like Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea or even someone like Barca, Real Madrid or AC Milan want him? And the answer with both is no, if/when either leave it will be a villa, pompey, Newcastle, Blackburn or team of that level that go for them.

having watched the game about 3 times now (spanish teledeportes seems to repeat it every 3 or 4 hours!) i don't quite get the venom aimed at pennant after the arsenal game. ok, he needlessly gave away the free for their equaliser and his crossing wasn't brilliant - but he seemed to be working fairly hard and make a few decent runs and passes. as i say, not breathtaking but not rubbish.

maybe the absence of kuyt demanded that pennant received the bile that's normally his.

Pennant is not good enough.  He always had potential but to be honest I get the feeling his never wanted to work hard enough to improve.  He got signed by Arsenal as a kid and probably thought he made it but didnt make the grade.  He goes to Liverpool and within a few months his talking about being shocked his not playing for England.  Its like he expected to get called up for England just cos he played for Liverpool.  Not to mention I have been told by someone who goes out on the town with prem footballers that Pennant still parties hard and gets wasted on the drink.

I would love to see a pennant + money swap for a player like Bentley. He's decent, but nothing more, i won't shed a tear if he leaves this summer

The fact that a very average player like Kuyt is played out of position and picked over a natural wide player like Pennant speaks volumes.  Kuyt is picked because he's a true team player, a work horse.  Pennant is not and never was good enough for Liverpool.  I think Pennant, Crouch, Voronin, Kewell will be the first to go.

Kuyt's all round game is better, more likely to get a goal or assist out of him, works hard and generally is just better for the team. There was no need to give away the foul Pennant did, he was going nowhere threatening and while it wasn't a dangerous area to concede a freekick, it was needlessly conceded and costly of both card and resultant goal. And his positive contribution was.........?

Kuyt more likely to get a goal eh, guess that shows how bad Pennant really is! Pennant gave away a needless free kick but it was our rubbish defending from the set piece that cost us.  We conceded an equally bad goal in the CL game at the Emirates.

The team isn't designed to get the best out of players like Pennant so its an absoloute waste of time having him in there.

With the right strikers he'd be an excellent part of any team, the fact is, we don't have the right forward players to get the best out of him and so we'll never see it. Simple as that.
