I got a response from the BBC:

Thank you for your e-mail regarding 'Sport Relief Does The Apprentice'. I understand that you objected vehemently to Kelvin MacKenzie appearing on the programme.

As you know, Kelvin MacKenzie was a high profile former editor of a tabloid newspaper and is a current columnist. He has controversial views but there is no question of BBC or Comic Relief endorsing his opinions. He was invited to take part in Sport Relief because of his commitment to raising money for the charities that it helps. He does not use the Apprentice as a platform, but appears as a well know person trying to raise the maximum amount of money for this good cause.

We hope that audiences will understand that the programme was designed to raise money for Sport Relief and was not about Kelvin's personal opinions. Sport Relief will raise millions for poor and vulnerable people here in the UK and around the World.

Kelvin, along with the other celebrities, gave up his time to the campaign for free and to help us raise millions for poor and vulnerable people here in the UK and around the world. Without these efforts we would not have such an entertaining and diverse campaign and we are grateful for their support. There is and was no intention to offend anyone, simply to raise the maximum money for Sport Relief.

I fully recognise that you were deeply offended that he was included on the programme and I can assure you that we have registered your comments on our audience log. This is the internal report of audience feedback which we compile daily for all programme makers and commissioning executives within the BBC, and also their senior management. It ensures that your points, and all other comments we receive, are circulated and considered across the BBC.

Thank you once again for taking the trouble to share your views with us.
