Juve deal close

iverpool midfielder Mohamed Sissoko has revealed he is 'very close' to joining Juventus.

The 22-year-old moved to Liverpool in the summer of 2005 from Valencia and is under contract with the Merseyside club until June 2011.

But he has struggled to hold down a starting place in Rafael Benitez's team, making just nine Barclays Premier League appearances this season.

'I'm still a Liverpool player,' Sissoko told Radio Montecarlo. 'But I expect a big announcement in the next few days.

'My agent, Juve and Liverpool are working on my departure.

'Everyone is asking me whether I have already signed: I haven't yet but my move to Juventus is very close.

'I'm expecting the good news any moment now, but I'm enthusiastic about beginning a new adventure in Italy with the Bianconeri.'

Sissoko is expected to arrive on a loan deal, with Juve being given the option to buy him at the end of the season.

The switch would see the Mali international link up with Claudio Ranieri, who he played under during his time in Spain. The Juve boss has already admitted he is keen on the midfielder.
" Some people say football is a matter of life and death, I don't like this attitude, I can assure them, its much more serious then that "

Hope it's a straight sale. Also hope this means we'll tie up Mascher, as we need to have four good central midfielders (and we certainly need Mascher to be one of them).

Just a couple of points:

Momo is only 22 years old and he will improve greatly. Do not forget he was a lot better before he had his eye injury which has confused his depth perception. He will get better.

As we have many central midfielders it could be a good sign that we signed Masch because I doubt we would sell him if we did not have a better player which Masch is.

I don't quite understand the celebrating and 'good riddance' remarks.  Sissoko's form has dropped for certain and it's best for him to move on but he did put in many very good shifts for us during his time here (Barca at Anfield last season, for one). And, it's not like he's another Salif Diao, who was on massive wages and who we couldn't unload for years.  If this deal does go through I wish him all the best in Turin and thank him for his important contributions over the past few years.

Agree with you completely on this one.

It's just (for my part) that I would rather keep hold of Mascher, and if this brings us any closer to that, then that's a good thing imo. We don't need 5 central midfielders anyway, and Momo just happens to be the one who comes up short against players like SG, Alonso and Mascher (plus Lucas as an up and coming player, who already looks quite good).

But if the deal goes through, then I also wish him all the best. And furthermore I'll also be keeping an eye on how he's doing, as he's still only 22 and has got plenty of time to develop even further.

One season on loan and they probably won't want to make it permanent. Am I right in thinking it's Ranieri who wants him because of his Valencia days? Maybe Claudio doesn't watch many of our games.............................

Spot on.

And it's not only a case of appreciation of a player because we're good fans and we appreaciate the things he has done for this club.

If what I read is true, Juventus will pay an important sum in summer for him. So Sissoko can be considered a good signing both economically and for what he has provided.

The fact that we have more quality in the squad now must not avoid us to see this big picture: He's done a job for us, at times crucial, and he has been profitable, that's something that Cisse or Morientes for instance could not say.

Yes, I would have liked a more emotive goodbye. It's always nice to read letters like the one Luis Garcia wrote to the fans rather than an statement that he's willing to go to Italy. But I can't say he's been a bad player for us.

I think we are making a mistake letting him go unless we know for CERTAIN  that Masch is staying. He offers something most of our midfield players dont offer in one package. Alonso is tall and can pass, but is not mobile or good at breaking up play. Mascherano, is small , Mobile, can pass and is good at breaking up play. Sissoko if he could just learn how to keep his head when passing (he can pass) would be a great asset. Maybe a less frantic league will suit him better?

RAFA: MO COULD GO
Jimmy Rice 11 January 2008
Rafa Benitez has confirmed Momo Sissoko could leave Liverpool in the January transfer window.
The Spanish coach revealed two or three clubs were keen on signing the Mali international.

Benitez said: "I was talking with Momo about leaving a few times, and with his agent. We know we have two or three clubs asking about him and we will try to find the best solution for him and for us.

"It depends on if we find the right club and the right offer. We need to wait.

"In a top side the competition is always really hard. We've brought in Lucas and with Gerrard playing in the middle this year, plus Alonso and Mascherano, he is under pressure.

"But he wants to play every game. We will try to find a solution for him because he is a nice boy."

Liverpool today completed the signing of Slovak defender Martin Skrtel, who Benitez revealed could well be the only addition this month.

The Liverpool boss said: "We are happy with the squad. We needed another centre-back but in the other positions we have enough players."

On the ongoing speculation regarding Javier Mascherano's future, Benitez added: "We will continue to keep working and we are confident he will stay with us."

Does indeed look like his Liverpool days are numbered. Rafa doesn't usually comment on these things unless they're about to actually happen. Good luck to the lad wherever he goes. Hopefully this will mean, we'll be able to keep Mascher, as I agree with Saint on this being extremely important now.
