New stadium - Stanley park our new home?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Bring Dalglish back » Sun Aug 01, 2004 12:40 pm

I'm a Liverpool fan who has been lucky enough to attend plenty of games over the years, however, there are some (including my closest mates), who have been on the season-ticket waiting list since they were about 12-years-old (during 1995). Firstly, the news that Liverpool could be moving to Stanley Park, can only be good news from their point of view, but secondly and most importantly, the news can only be good financially for our side in order to compete with the M** Utd's and Chelsea's of this world.

Not just any bigger stadium, but a modern one with the engineering design to cater for future incerments in capacity if required. Old Trafford went from slightly over 51,000 in the 80s to 67,000 it is now and Arsenal's vice Chairman has said that this contributed to some 1 million pounds more gate receipts for manure per home game over Arsenal's.

As much as I dislike the Mancs, you have to say, there ground is spectacular, which is why England will play all their World Cup qualifiers there.

The good thing for us being re-located to Stanley Park is that, once we're there, we can increase the size as and when we want unlike at Anfield where we are fortified by houses.

We can't get too attached to Anfield because, the place is not the same as it was before they made it all-seater. We won't forget it though - Anfield is a legend in football history!!

Thats a good point about Man UTD's stadium, Azriahmad.

Maybe 60,000 to start off with and it the club takes off again the stadium should allow the club to increase capacity in the future.

Yes, a modern stadium built at a new site would cater for an engineering capacity to make future extensions in capacity if and when needed.

JBG and all you guys in Liverpool, I do envy you because as a far away fan in Malaysia, I can only catch the live games on the telly. I was last in England in 1993 and yearn to return and go to the new Anfield in the future. Hopefully can meet up with you guys someday.

If and when the new stadium is built, I hope that the design is unique to other grounds which are relatively new.

What I don't want for example, is a stadium that looks like a duplication of another like Bolton's Reebok stadium and Huddersfield's McCalpine.

We need a distinctive design because, equally, we are a club with a distinct history and tradition.

The new stadium needs to be fit for the next century.. when  u think how all the old stadias are serving us.

I hope tha above all its ground we can be proud to call the home of Liverpool FC.

I alsp hope it's called "Anfield"  becasue the name by association is steeped in so-much history.. tell anyone in the world you've been to Anfield and they know your talking about the home of the Reds of Liverpool! :)

I agree with your point Zarabe.

The name 'Anfield' is synonomous for so many things. When Bob Shankly put the 'This is Anfield' sign in the tunnel, it instilled fear into the opponents.

Even though its going to be a stone's throw from Anfield I doubt it will be called Anfield.

I sincerely hope we won't have something like "Reebok Stadium, Merseyside" or something, but then again, I doubt that Moores would ever go that far.

It looks like it will be a good looking stadium.

If only Everton FC could understand that Liverpool FC don't want their sorry @$$e$ to share Future Anfield.

Why would Liverpool FC want to share our new stadium with a club that is £30 Million in debt?

Are they offering to pay half for it?

No.

the name Anfield is synonomous with our club, and is part of the History of it, it would be a shame to lose the name 'Anfield'.

I'm of the same opinion and i think Anfield is probabbly the most likely name.

I was surprised to hear it's not taking that long at all to buiild and we should be playing there is 2 years.

The original Anfield hasn't been the same since the Kop was made all seater to be honest but it wil be a sad day when we do eventually leave ....:(
