If I post a reply that is meant in a lighthearted way I usually stick a    on the end, not because I think its so funny, but to try to avoid people taking my remark seriously.

I think sarcasm is something that people either "get" or they don't, in conversation its much easier as people can tell by the tone of your voice or the look on your face that you are being sarcastic.

IMO sarcasm can be one of the funniest sides of humour, it can also be very hurtful and nasty when used in the wrong way, often without intent.

I notice its often used as an excuse when a post goes down like a lead balloon as well.

Most of the time I find sarcasm tedious and boring, but when used well extremly funny (usually against someone I don't like to much) 

I really don't see it meself.

I don't see whats clever about it. Don't get me wrong, we've all done it, at times you do get asked stupid questions which deserve stupid answers but I just think some people do it to much. It can be funny on occassion, but when people do it all the time, bring things up that are nothing to do with previous conversation and act like bellends with it, it bores the out of me if I'm honest.

Its just a smart 's way of trying to be funny.

I'd say that people like Lee Hurst, Jonathon Ross and Peter Kay have it down to a tee, most other people though don't.

Still curious to hear more views on it though.

Thats the sort of unfunny response that some people would give though on the forum. I bet you were seething when you seen that...

It was however meant as a joke... to have a go at sarcasm, in a sarcastic way...

In which case it kind of proves what you were saying to be right.
