I said then and I say now that Finnan could be the answer. Aurelio too is a good shout - his delivery was starting to look seriously class from open play before his injury.

Gerrard should get the f*ck in the box and show how good he is in the air instead of lobbing it to the first defender. I applaud him for wanting to take the initiative at set plays, but corners are simply not a strength of his, while heading most certainly is.

yeah there was a thread on this an nothing seems to have changed...
This area definitely needs improvement.
Any reliable source that Rafa has this item on his practice list? ???

liverpool are very one dimensional
no ideas
no creativity
but very good at getting and maintaining possession at times though they lose it
maybe a player in the mold of mcmanaman or kaka will do
someone who can create something out of nothing

This is no brainer Ciggy.....We simply do not have a natural single player good at set piece. You need such a player in the team. I have seen the scums scoring a lot of them and winning games they didnt even control.Liverpool needs Quaresma to both win free kicks and score them...!!!!

Might part of the problem regards set pieces be we don't have many decent headers of the ball? Crouch is not great in the air, nor is Gerrard, Alonso, Sissoko, Pennant............................... etc. Our best (attacking) header of the ball is probably Hyypia.

As for direct free kicks, well Gerrard is like his distance shooting - great goal or miles wides. Same for Riise so you have to think maybe Alonso needs to become more of a specialist. I often think with the numbers of players put in the defensive wall that you should by-pass it and then cross since they will have four or more players in a wall and not marking anyone

for such a fantastic player, gerrard should never be allowed to take another corner again. he's shocking at them and should be used as an attacking weapon. go back to the treble season and i can remember him scoring 3 or 4 really good headers from corners and free kicks.

i would suggest pennant takes them all but judging by his driving record it appears he can't take corners either.

just joking jermaine :D

Does anyone know if Gerrard's scoring rate is better when he plays CM or RM? I reckon Yossi could be the man to take corners and set pieces perhaps.

I seem to recall the last season Beckham played for the mancs that they failed to score direct from a single corner, this from the supposed set piece specialist who monopolises them for club and country. The one thing I liked about the last two England games was that different people took the set pieces and that can mix it up, add variety and not depend on one person getting it right.
