Postby NANNY RED » Thu Sep 13, 2007 12:24 pm

Ive just been reading last nights echo and read a couple of comments regarding us going for gareth barry if this has already been posted then apologies as i havnt been able to gain access to my computer for a couple of months ive been up looking after my mam as my dad passed away

Do we really want another midfielder and is he better than what we already have . Apparently Stevie G spoke of how comfortable he felt playing alongside him

Sorry for your loss nanny .

As much as i like Gareth Barry , i can't see him getting into our midfield on a regular basis if atall . Having said that he has got a good left foot and would be a different option. I can't see where he would improve the midfield we already have.

I really like Barry he is a solid player in a variety of positions, but having said that like others have said he would really struggle to get into our midfield. He would be a decent option for the left in games where you want to stay tight and try and be a bit more difficult to beat, but would he want to go from being Villas captain and main man to a bit part player for us ?
Would welcome him if it was true though without a doubt.

I reckon Stevie G was speaking purely from an England perspective when he said he felt comfortable alongside Barry and not making any Club level intimation..... He couldn't do any better a job than Xabi or Masch do already, maybe it was Stevie's way of giving Fat Frank the thumbs down? I like to think it was!!

I think Barry would be a great signing and im a massive fan of him. If we signed him he could play LB,LM and CM. People always go on how inadequate Riise is LB well barry is Ace there and i think he is a signing we should be looking for along with Portsmouths Matty Taylor who can also play in a few positions including Cover for Finnan at RB

Versatile, strong, can pick a pass and DOES NOT have a showbiz lifestyle - that'll do me.

Sorry for your loss mate :(

I was actually logging on to drag up the 'who should we buy, select 3 players' thread from pre-season. Barry was one of my three and i got shouted down by a good number on here! Am feeling pretty vinidicated after his last two performances :)

Leon's post pretty much sums up my feelings on the player. He should be at a top 4 club and it's a crime he never got a look in for England while the likes of Phil Neville and Alan Smith made the squad :no

Sounds like a perfect player for the left side of defence.  As a matter of fact I reckon he would be a perfect left back.

A few little things stopping him coming  from the Villllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
lllllllllllllllllllllllllllaaa would be.

1.  Villa not wanting to sell him.
2.  Cause they dont want to sell him, the price will be sky. high.

Hopefully he will have got on well with Gerrard on International duty.  An Gerrards mentioned it to him on the sly about coming to us.  Or, if he hasnt thats what he should do next time they meet up.  This could be a good thing finally coming from and International week.

Could be possible, hopefully.

He's looked good in two games at CM for England but he's never been all that at LM .
Good player, but we don't NEED him.
