from all reports Alves is set to sign with chelsea. dissappointed he didnt come to us. wasnt we heavily linked with him? if we did y did we lose interest coz surely money wouldnt be a problem. alves would of pushed finnan hard for a first tem place and add depth to our right side

Good Player... We were Squabbling over 2 million last year.. We wouldn't pay more than ten mill i think the figure was. I think he is worth 12-15 million but would not want us to go in at 20+ for him..

Alves was getting bought to play on the wing instead of full back, so i think with babel and yossi coming in he hasn't been bought.

I think we will regret not buying him as the lad is class IMO

Let them have him
when he plays against us in future games, he will leave more space at the back or down the left for Raffa to exploit. I was not worried if we got him anyway when we were linked with him way back.

Happy for finnan to have that spot at the moment he does not need pressure to push him into playing well each week as he does it for the badge and anyway it would be nice to see maybe one of our reserve players or home grown given the chance if the need arises.

He is good going forward....but not sure how good is his defending.

if i remember rafa wanted him to come as a RW not a RB. Since we already have yossi, pennant and babel can play on the right...so...

Finnan's as good as a right back we need, he might not have the pace going forward or the skill of Alves but he can't half whip a good ball in the box, rate him as one of our best crossers of the ball and £20m or whatever they're paying is way over the top.

Mourinho went on saying that the pressures on us cos we've spent loads this summer, we've recouped loads yet they've now forked out about £40m on two players, he talks a load of bullsh!t that nob!!

watched him in last seasons UEFA cup final yes he is good going forward but hell he is SHI@E tracking back

I disagree with the general consensus in this thread so far.... This lad is class..... definitely brilliant going forward but no slouch in defense either..... I understood the reasons why we didn't pay the added 2 mill for him last year... wouldn't have made sense to pay 12 million and made a defender the 2nd most expensive player in our history back then when we were clearly starved for a proper striker.

Still doesn't detract from the fact that he's a brilliant player IMO. Not good for chelsea to get a player like this as It'll allow them to crowd their central midfield with 3 players and use Cole and Alves to overlap down the flanks. They'll be able to stifle out most teams in the middle of the park and yet still have width down the flanks.

Shame we didn't get him.... SOur grapes on my part hopes he bombs big time in London....

They could have done that with SWP as i feel alves he has been bought buy them as a winger and not a defender, they have had the players to stiffle midfeild for 2 seasons i really don't see what advantage he will give them to the options they could have had. if they use him as an attacking wing back i feel clever managers will exploit that. It is just another attempt by that Fecking bunch to swallow every player up.

Yes he is good but time will tell

not upset at all just waiting for some one in the upper ranks of chelsea to want to start selling as world domination is not being colour Blue

I heard the fee could be anything up to £25m.

But this weekend still expect Mourinho in the pre-match Chelsea press conference to bleat on about how "the pressure is on Liverpool as they are spending crazy money"

I rate him but I think for the price they're paying for him its way over the top, and i'd prefare Finnan at right back anyway, again like you I hope he bombs like the other over priced right back they bought.

Raffa will never regret he will just find a better solution and show his superior management skills and be 20mil in pocket.

Having watched Alves a few times he is obviously class but an absolute ****. Him and Chelsea deserve each other.
