Henry to join barca... - Does this mean eto is free to move?

The Premiership - General Discussion

From the BBC

Striker Henry 'to join Barcelona'
Barcelona are set to sign Arsenal striker Thierry Henry for a fee believed to be about £16m, according to reports coming out of Spain.

Barcelona are in talks with Arsenal with a view to signing striker Thierry Henry on a four-year deal.

Officials for the Spanish club are in London negotiating with the Gunners over a reported £16m transfer fee.

The player's agent, Jeff Weston, told BBC Sport: "The SEM Group have no comment to make."

Not a bad price if you ask me but where does that leave Eto or even Ronaldinho?

The next week or so should be interesting, I think Eto will have to move on now and we should do all we can to get him

It doesn't necessarily mean Eto'o will leave, but it was necessary if that was ever to happen.

Might be the start of a chain reaction, and the end of the "nothing is happening".

Yes, it's confirmed, LFC2007 or so it says the Barcelona press.

From Sky Sports

he Spanish media has reported that Thierry Henry has signed a four-year deal with Barcelona.

Cadena Ser radio, the station that broke the news of David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane's moves to Real Madrid, claims Barcelona will pay €24million (£16.2million) for the Arsenal forward.

The station, which quotes Barcelona officials, says Henry has put pen-to-paper on a contract spanning until 2011.

Spanish newspapers have also reported the story, although officials from Barcelona have told Sky Sports News they will not confirm or deny the news.

Barcelona have been tracking Henry for over 12 months, despite the Frenchman signing a long-term deal with The Gunners last summer.

The Catalan giants are looking to strengthen this summer after losing out to Real Madrid in the Spanish title race.

And after Arsenal's disappointing season in the Premiership it appears Henry has now made the decision to continue his career at Camp Nou.

"Catalunya informacio" , some sort of Radio City there says it was the second economic chairman, Ferran Soriano, the one to reach the 4 year deal, and adds the bit of info that he will be introduced to the fans on Monday or Tuesday.

In my country "not deny not confirm" is to grant something, meaning, we can be 99'9% sure the deal is done.

Good Stuff!

It takes a big name move like this to break the stalemate, hopefully its the start of a lot of activity.
It does not mean Eto is going anywhere though, perhaps Eto wants to stay now more than ever.
What striker would not relish playing alongside Henry?

Very surprised.  Honestly I thought Henry would stay.

16 million is fair enough I think, especially considering his age and the fact that he has been injured for most of last season.

Arsenal must be sick though.  They'd have got twice the money for him last summer when he was flavour of the month having just dragged them to the CL final.

I also don't think you can accomodate Messi, Henry, Eto'o and Ronaldinho in the same 11.  They might keep all 4 and try it, but I can't see it being a success.  They had enough trouble keeping clean sheets without throwing an extra forward into the mix.

FWIW I have a friend who's a poster in one of the main Barcelona forums and he has talked personally with Eto'o in a youngster championship celebrated in Leon (1). Eto'o doesn't want to move and he has told this poster (who has high credibility, it would be like Leonmc or supersub saying such a thing) that he's not leaving. Eto'o has insulted the press to this poster, and said he's gonna play with Henry.

I'm not so sure though what the club will do.

(1) Leon is a town in the middle of Spain, not our poster.  :D

Eto has gone on and on about playing with henry, so i think he will stay. Additionally like we all say, you don't sell your best. Good move all round, Henry looked jaded here recently, Arsenal although must think they have lost a few mill on last years value. Barca good bet for la liga and cl.

this could leave the door open for wenger to go to r.madrid and  Fabergas  to leave as he was not happy with henry leaving
