The game against Wigan was Pepe Reina's 100th game for the club, and along with it came another record. Reina has kept more clean sheets in his first 100 than any other post war Liverpool keeper, 55 in total.

With thanks to Liverpool FC's official statistician Ged Rea here is the clean sheets record for the top 5 goalkeepers in their first 100 starts for the club since the 1960's for Liverpool.

1, Pepe Reina. 55 clean sheets.

2. Ray Clemence. 51 clean sheets.

3. Bruce Grobbelaar. 50 clean sheets.

4. Jerzy Dudek. 45 clean sheets.

5. Sander Westerveld. 42 clean sheets.

I was quite shocked to see Westerveld in there, I forgot that he wasn't that bad at first. On a side note, does anyone know why stats like this are always post war? I'm pretty sure Elisha Scott would've made the list, if not topped it, if pre war keepers were included. Was there something different about the game before the war, like they only played for 80 minutes or something, that makes the stats uncomparable?

Anyway good to see confirmed what I already knew. Pepe's the best keeper we've had in a long time, I can't believe some people were asking for him to be dropped near the start of the season.

Talking of keeping records, what was James' ? 142 clean sheets and hasn't he played in the Premiership virtually from the off? According to my sources he's played 502 league games for Liverpool and subsequent clubs so assuming all were in the top flight that makes his record roughly a clean sheet every third game.

Well at the rate Pepe's going, he'll hit that figure in roughly 200 less games.

in all fairness to him, he would have a lot more if he'd played behind hyypia and henchoz or hyypia and carragher as opposed to ruddock and babb.

Well done Pepe........ thanks in no small part i'm sure, to the fact that he has a sterling backline (3 of 4) in front of him......

Keep it up lad.... especially against Chelsea the next few games....

David James had the tendency of making howlers while playing for us but he actually improved quite a bit since leaving Liverpool. also, the thing about his clean sheet Premiership record is that he had never had the luxury of having a rock solid defensive pair in front of him. Right now, he is much better than that bumbling Robinson and you'd have to look at another statistic - number of on-target shots saved and James will look world-class next to Robinson!

As for Reina, I'm convinced that he'll go on to break new records. It is a pity for Carson that Reina is at Liverpool, I am sure that he should be the next England first chioce 'keeper.

One time, he was trying to score, but couldn't quite find the right angle.

So Andy Cole came along and dived right into the box.

Sir Alex was also there watching, chewing, with his nose glowing red.

Someone may note the keepers' appearances add up to 176 even though Liverpool have played 175 games, this is because of the red card for Reina against Chelsea. The above shows that the defence has improved to one of the best in the Premiership with Reina in goal. It's been mainly Carragher and Hyypia at the back throughout with Agger playing instead of Hyypia a lot more now (40 appearances to 27 this season)

We now just need a striker who can have the same sort of impact on the scoring records

Dare I say it there is room for improvement, EVERYONE should be talking about how Reina is the best keeper in the Premiership and I reckon he should be working hard on his weaknesses.

Sadly too many 'fans' on here are very fickle. If a new 24 year old striker showed what Fowler did against Pompey they'd all be ranting about how he looks promising and all he needs is this and that, especially if this 24 year old striker provided the assist for the only goal Liverpool scored in BOTH his last two appearances. But what must surely now be called 'Robbie bashers' subscribe to the myth that he's past it even though he has little chance to prove his form with a run in the side. I remember last season Crouch doing jack for months and he had ardent supporters yet he wasn't the Liverpool legend Fowler is and still I'd say Fowler is as good as Crouch if not better given the chance.

How many said he couldn't last 90 mins? How little credit is he given for his two assists? I saw lot's of "yay we're back in it, Hyypia must start on Tuesday" and little acknowledgement of the source. I often think I watch a different game to most on here because frankly they shut out what they don't want to see in both Crouch and Fowler - looking to be positive on one and negative on the other. I say we need five or six strikers in the squad and Fowler could still play a role at the club, I'm sure others would be happier either signing another giraffe or talking about signing players we'll never get
