Greetings from the people's republic of cork

For new members to introduce themselves - Guest Book

Postby derm » Wed Apr 11, 2007 9:30 am

Hi all,
I've nominally been a 'Pool fan since the 70s when a gang would roam our primary school and demand "who do you follow"? I ventured my Dad's favourite team of Liverpool and have always appreciated how Liverpool saved me from a thump or two...

Unfortunately I successfully managed to miss the subsequent glory years and only got interested in footie after a certain Mr Charlton brought Ireland to the World Cup Finals. After that I started supporting both my local team Cork City FC (Kevin Doyle and Shane Long are two exports now in the Premiership) and Liverpool.

Once the League of Ireland switched to Summer Soccer it made it easier to support both :D

Thanks,
Derm

Cheeky Request
What prompted me to formally introduce myself instead of just lurking on the forum was a situation that has arisen at CCFC which mirrors the Mascherano case. Colin Healy (ex Celtic) and Gareth Farrelly have signed for Cork City, yet FIFA has refused clearance, even though the facts seem to be the same (League of Ireland plays in summer). I would appreciate it if any fans of footie in general would take the time to sign the petition below:
http://www.gopetition.com/online/11771.html
I know how everyone was on tenterhooks over Mascherano so if you can spare a few minutes I'd appreciate it.

Here's hoping for a Pool victory over Manure in the European final ! (And CCFC winning the Intertoto :D )

Bit of both to be honest. I've lurked around the forum for a while and even made a couple of tentative posts but this issue spurred me to actually make the intro.

Thanks to all who signed! Latest is that the PFA (of England) are bringing it to the Court of Abritration for Sport so fingers crossed this should force FIFA to actually consider drafting a rule that works ...

Bunglemark2, I live in West Cork so am the créme de la créme of ... well humans really

Good luck to all those heading to Athens, I'll be cheering on from my couch and probably doing silly drunken things like I did for the semi... honestly, if my fiancée saw me standing up to actually salute Fowler coming on the pitch she would probably cancel our wedding :D

By the way JBG, langer is sooo out of vogue since every tom dick and harry started using it ... ya langball :D
