Romario - 1000th goal

International Football/Football World Wide - General Discussion

Romario (41) is going for his 1000th goal (not all competitive though). He has 999 and 60,000 came to see a game that usually gets 5000.

He was a striker a loved watching , best first touch I've ever seen.

I think he was a mongrel created by mixing the genes of Maradonna and Gerd Muller- a goal scoring machine. What an achievement if he gets it.

He scored goals everywhere at every level and took the pi$$ out Pallister&Bruce a few times too :D

An all time legend. :buttrock

He's a legend and one of the most honest players I've seen.

He admitted to the Valencia staff that he needed to go out at nights, otherwise he couldn't perform well in the pitch. That guy closed many night clubs at 5 am and was training 5 hours later!

As long has he scores goals, what they do with their lifes should be secondary? Romario da Souza Faria is the perfect example that night clubs alcohol and doing well in the pitch are compatible :). John Aldridge did a couple of sickies when he was in San Sebastian, but Romario was the king of the night!!

As a player he was magnificent, great finishing, evil touch, he could drible you in <--------> this space, and clever.

His con is that he didn't press a player in his whole career.

I read somewhere though that his goal tally is actually around 960 odd because he started to add non-competative goals on :D

Romario is still alive?

I thought he poisoned himself?

I heard this on the news:

"A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun for sorrow will not show his head.
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punishèd;
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Juliet and her Romario".

this romario and pele 1000 goals stuff is all rubbish, going by their criteria i`ve probably scored 1000 myself in the streets when i was a kid.
if you played for 20 years (which is a hell of a career) you`d have to score 50 goals a season for every one of those 20 seasons.
it`s impossible, their just embaressing themselves with claims like that.
robbie fowler in his prime scored over 30 goals for 3 consecutive seasons before he was injured and looked incredible, to think someone could score 20 more a season, every season for 20 years......well my brain cant compute it.

he former Brazilian striker Romario scored what he says is the 1,000th goal of his career in a match in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday.

The only other player to have secured this record is Brazilian legend Pele.

But the 41-year-old admits his tally includes goals scored in youth, friendly and testimonial games.

Romario's 1,000th goal came from a penalty kick in the game between Vasco da Gama and Sport of Recife in the Brazilian national championship.

The fact that it was a penalty did not diminish the joy of his team-mates and the player was immediately mobbed.

Surrounded by television crews, Romario dedicated the goal to his family and children and said it marked an extraordinary moment in his life.

His wife and children were among those who came onto the pitch and it took 16 minutes before the game could be restarted.

Despite the hype, there is controversy surrounding the achievement as Romario's tally is not recognised by football's international governing body, Fifa, which says it only counts goals scored in official tournaments.

However, given his long and highly successful career, there will be few who begrudge the player his night of glory.

Romario the king of the toe-eeee  :D

Fantastic player and as j-mac says on one-on-ones unbelievable.

Not many players toweeed it as well.

You cant start saying that youth team goals and testimonials and that count for official records though  :no
