Hey guys I play computer games once in a while.
You guys played Doom and Wolfenstein?? Challenging games. I cant get past the big red thing

Wolfenstein the one that you were on a skate (no walking up and downs?) great one. Too new though, I haven't finished Head over Heels yet. If you don't know what's that, you're too young. Great English game by a great programmer, John Ritman.

Feeney wrote:Got me mates 360 at the min and have been playing it quite a lot, trying out all of the games.

Pro Evo 6 - while its great to be able to play my mates online, i'm really disappointed with the actual game. The graphics arn't that great and the gameplay pales in comparision to the PS2 version. Must try harder.

Call of Duty 3 - graphically excellent, but it plays far too much like the PS2 version of COD2. Maybe i'm stuck in the past, but I still think COD2 on PC is better than the current version (bring on 4, made by Infinity Ward again!).

Gear of War - Oh. My. God. Words cannot describe my delight and surprise at this game. I was under a huge impression that this would be an FPS, but it has much more in common with Kill Switch (some might not know that one!). What a game. Even on my standard TV, the graphics are simply phenominal and a close up kill with the chainsaw is great!!

Others - Tiger Woods 07, Test Drive, Splinter Cell - hardly mindblowing.

After months of actually wanting one, now having had a try i'm not as blown away as I thought i'd be. Admittedly, i'm only playing on a standard def telly, but apart from GOW i've not been as impressed as I thought. I was quite torn for a time over whether to purchase a 360 or PS3 but my lukewarm reception with the first next-gen console has given me the patience to wait a little bit until after the PS3 launch (when the second wave of games are coming through, having been out in America and Japan for a year) and see what happens.

Gears is indeed a great game Feeney but the other two aren't as indicative of "Next Gen" as other games are. PES6 is a great game in my opinion, but gameplay wise, there is nothing additional in the Xbox version that is in the PS2 version. Call of Duty 3 is run of the mill: a solid game with decent-ish graphics but nothing else.

There are plenty of other top notch games out there on the 360 though. There is nothing like Oblivion on any other console (although its available on PC) and Viva Pinata is a great little next gen oddity. Rainbow 6: Vegas is a true next gen game, as is GRAW (the Xbox version is better than the PC version, I've got both) and Lost Planet, and there are literally dozens of jaw dropping titles coming out this year.

I've just got FIFA 2006 for the PS2 - Good game! Love the manager mode. I took charge of Newcastle Utd and I've had 4 season with them:

1 - 5th prem
2 - 5th prem, EFA final
3 - 2nd prem, won league cup
4 - 1st prem

At the end of every season I keep checking the job offers and none of the big teams are listed. How do I get a job offer from Liverpool or Arsenal etc?

What i was wondering was before i go out and spend on a few new games i fancy will i need a graphics card or should my p/c be OK without one...basically will i be able to play up to date games or will they not work?

Any help would be appreciated!!

It depends on the graphic card, but I'd say that given that configuration (I guess it's 2'93 Ghz not 293 or you'd have rocket) I think it must be an AGP card, plus you say that you have less than 512 Mb, which means the system is using some memory for the video -you actually have 512Mb- so chances are that newest games will be sluggish if they work at all.

But just download or buy some games of 2 years ago. Because you know it's all the same, you kill terrorists, you beat Chavski 6-0 the same way, it's just some difference in the quality of the texture and that the smoke that appears after an explosion has more details. You don't need that really.

Stick to a little bit older titles.

Some new games that don't require 3d capabilities, such as Football Manager will work ok, though. Some other new titles aren't that demanding neither, you should find easily what they require both in the box and the internet.

Ah I forgot to mention that if you have that kind of computer you can't buy the new PCI-Express cards.

You need more RAM and a better graphics card.

As Sabre said, its almost certainly the case that you have an old AGP slot rather than the modern PCIExpress ones, so be extremely careful that you check this out and get an AGP card.

Get an AGP card for about £80 and you'll be able to play pretty much any game, albeit at greatly reduced graphical fidelity.

Yeh I have a 5300LE 256Mb which is better than nothing and I hadn't thrown to the recycling bin because I'm too lazy.

BB is going to send me something aswell. :)

Errrr, that 5300LE, gift and all that it is, might not necessarily solve the problem.

The 5200 and 5300, indeed any of the Nvidia 5000 series of cards, are notoriously :censored:.

It all depends whether you want to spend money on a card, Barry. You could probably get a second hand ATI x850 or Nvidia 6600/6800 on ebay for about £50 to £80, and these games will play practically any game out there (just not at high settings).

You can also pick up a 512MB DDR dimm for hardly anything, even on the High Street.

Incidentally Barry, don't go for the PS3. The 360 is easily as good, is much cheaper, and has a lot of good games out already.

No, it won't solve the problem, but it's better than nothing. I overclocked it and even played Oblivion smoothly at the worst resolution. Plus he'll have more system memory :)

It's true though, that if you want the latest features BB you'll have to buy a new one.

Cheers JBG !
I'll give Sabres card a blast,im not really be gonna be playing any games that need a monster of a machine.
Just bought Medal of honour allied assault and the Godfather.Got 2 for £25 which seems quite reasonable!Looking at the details on the back of the games it seems my machine should cope OK...maybe a bit slow but surei'll see!We are heading out for dinner soon then im coming home getting pi.ssed and gonna shoot every f.ucker in sight! :D  :buttrock
I'll see how they work and if i need more RAM you can tell me what to buy!

As for the 360 compared to the PS3...i wanna see what they are both like before i buy..cant afford both!Always preffered the PS2 to the Xbox....Only for Halo 1 and 2 i think the PS2 kicked its a.ss..just my opinion though!
