I'm flying over from Sweden on the 19:e december with a friend to go and see Liverpool VS Arsenal in the Carling Cup. She wants to make a quick trip to Dublin since she stayed there for a year when she was younger and that and a tour of Anfield is basically what we have planned for the stay. We are going home on the 22:e. I have not booked any hotells either so suggestions for that would also be nice. What pubs should we visit before the game?

For funny atmosphere "Coopers" pub opposite central station is a great laugh.
The pubs on Mathew St are good too.

matthew street (loads of beatles stuff & some lively bars at night)

bold street (plenty of shops & loads of bars)

slater street (all the best bars)

cathedrals - either end of hope street, well worth a visit to both

albert dock - have a poo on fred's weather map

pier head - the waterfront with the liver building, maritime museum etc

sefton park - 10 minute cab ride out of the centre, nice place to chill

lark lane - just off sefton park - very bohemian (or at least it used to be) some cool cafe's etc to warm up after freezing yer t*ts off in sefton park

kirkby - tescos

I was in Liverpool in January/February and there's plenty to do. Anfield goes without mention and both the Anglican and Catholic Cathedrals are defo worth a visit.

Check out Chinatown, just down from the Anglican Cathedral. The arch in Chinatown is the one of the biggest (if no biggest) outside China I believe. Albert Dock is a must - the Museum of Liverpool Life has a good football exhibition, with lots of Liverpool stuff and an a piece of the old standing kop. Matthew Street and Bold Street as Woolly mentioned are good for a night out. If you want a great view of the city, take a tour of the Radio City tower (tallest building in Liverpool I think), it's only a few pounds and you can check out the studios and stuff (where Aldo does his commentary) as well as take some great photos.

Book in the Museum and Stadium tour if you haven't already, asbolutley brilliant. Don't forget to walk round the back of the kop and check out the Shankly Gates and Hillsborough Memorial (tour doesn't cover them). As for Bars around the ground the Sandon is good and the Albert. Oh pay a visit to the HJC shop as well if you want, just across the road from Anfield.

There's plenty to do, Cavern Club, take a ferry across the mersey etc etc. Liverpool is a fantastic city mate, I'm sure you'll love it.
