A Schoolgirl was seriously injured in a collision with a bus. The 11-year-old girl, who is believed to be a pupil at Matthew Humberstone CofE School, was riding her bike on Carr Lane, Grimsby, when the incident happened at about 3.15pm just outside Carr Lane Fisheries yesterday.

An eyewitness said there was nothing more the bus driver could have done to have avoided the impact.

The girl was taken to Grimsby's Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital by ambulance with serious head injuries.

Last night, staff there described her condition as stable.

A woman who was on the bus, but did not wish to be named, said: "The girl looked like she had a bad head injury.

"The bus was driving at a normal speed and as it braked people fell. Some people on the bus had to be taken to hospital, I think with minor injuries.

"There was nothing more the bus driver could have done."

A stretch of the road was closed for about 50 metres as police crash scene investigators carried out examinations.

Janine Barker (39), of Carr Lane, walks down the road to take her children to and from school.

She said: "The level of traffic and the number of kids down here means there was an accident waiting to happen."

is says she is stable at the moment  so i hope she will be ok   :(
