What can the world do about north korea?

I found these pictures taken by a Russian tourist who visited North Korea and also watched a documentary about North Korea on Google Video(the defector who filmed it would certainly have been publicly executed if caught) Im sure that North Korea is easily worst place to live in the world, their people are starving, lied to and have no access to the outside world.  People who happen to live there are starving, being controlled and have nothing to hope for, except those that have found favor from Kim Jong Il. I don't know how the world is worrying about Iran when North Korea is the worst dictatorship on the planet.
The government might be importing salmon from Norway, beef from Argentina while children are wallowing in the mud searching for food to survive and some ordinary citizens are even resorting to cannibalism.
No doubt the Russian tourists guide was heavily punished for the publication of these pictures:

I have no idea why I care but I simply can't help but feel extremely sad for this people or why im fascinated by this, but it is a totally different life to what everyday citizens in most countrys have nowadays, its probably one of the worlds last dictatorships.

North Korea should be overthrown as Kim Jong Il is a psychotic paranoid selfish madman who lives a life of luxury and deliberately starves his own people to death, the sad thing is he thinks hes some sort of God. :(

Invading North Korea would be a bloodbath. Kim Jong Il has a loyal and strong army which would fight to the death.... he's got nuclear weapons and woudln't hesitate to use them.

Roberts- just a quick question- what's wrong with those pictures?
As much as i have sympathy (and honestly do), the top photo just looks like a mosaic of the world, the second is a kid who looks like he's not having the best life, but i've seen kids in this country in much worse sh.it holes of homes (and don't have stereos, computers or food), and not sure what the third is.

just wondered what the story was behind these photos?

True.

To invade North Korea would be stupid, and I can trust Bush and Blair to do it, they are stupid enough.

North Korea have the biggest and most dedicated army in the world, to invade it would simply be suicide for the world as nuclear weapons would be used, without a second thought.

no one will invade north korea as in a land war they would spank anyone, despite his stupidity even bush knows that.

mate as you know i live in thailand and on a daily basis i see extremes of wealth and abject poverty. it happens everywhere.

in relation to north korea, take it all with a pinch of salt. i have a russian friend and she lived during communism. i mentioned to her about the bread lines etc, she just laughed.

the thing is anyone can make a movie and make it seem bad, i remember news showing russians in poverty and believed that all russians didnt have any money to eat. then when you travel you get to find out the truth about whats going on rather than our own blinkered impression.

of course in north korea people some people live in poverty, but they do in kirkby also.

in bangkok today 25 north koreans where arrested in bangkok, illegal imigrants. they are being sent to south korea where they get automatic citizenship

Theres nothing behind the pics I just thought Id stick them there because you cant get many pictures of the Real North Korea(the murky poor areas), the only pics you can ever get seem to be of the good side of NK.
The Kid you are referring to who looks like hes not having the best life, is actually one of the lucky ones in the impoverished country, hes from a model family which means he probably lives a much better life than the average North Korean, even though his life doesnt look glamourous, its probably a hollywood lifestyle in the DPRK

Hence why Blair and his puppeteer wouldn't touch them with a barge-pole.

China is the key.

Unless they abandon their totalitarian system, little will change in North Korea. But while the higher level Chinese are earning money while operating essentially a system based on using cheap, easily disposable and replacable, legally unprotected peasants, working absurd hours in harsh conditions, there is no motivation for them to change.

The West won't push the issue until they need every segment of Chinese society to become wealthy consumers. Until then, the West will just continue to sell its stuff to the wealthier upper level Chinese and continue to exploit those poor wretched Chinese urchins willing to work for a bowl of rice as cheap labour.

The long term goal I suppose is unification with South Korea, although merging the prosperous South with the poverty-stricken and backward North will be a problem. Essentially the same problem Germany faced in 1990 onwards.

The South Koreans may be happy at the prospect of unifying with their "brothers and sisters" etc....but they may think differently when they have to pay to bring North Korea up to standards, since the entire nation is a shythole.

You know, with a population the size of North Korea, surely there must be at least ONE football player we could use somewhere, even in the reserves. That way, we'd be doing him a huge humanitarian favour - taking him away from a life of abject poverty, ill-fitting uniforms, daft national parades and dancing, ugly women......and setting him up in Liverpool.....Then again, is there much of a difference ?  :wwww
