No, I got smashed last night, Phil.  Had eight games of pool over the course of the night, played brilliantly in all but one, and lost all eight.  Unbelievable, even my mate said I was unlucky.  One of those nights.  Gripped some random bird though.

:buttrock :buttrock

Was going to go out tonight but I phoned my local pubs before and they both said it was dead so I drove up the offy before and got 24 cans of Carling in.  Just sitting off and I'll probably watch Lost series 2 episodes 9 - 12 until the early hours with a few cans.  Probably go out tomorrow for a few jars though.

As far as this topic goes, JBG, it's been a pleasure, I think you know that, and if you ever need a reference..... :D

I've just banned Hustler again.  I'll continue to ban bellends if you've no problem with me being trigger happy.  I just don't want to come across as a power hungry knobhead.  I'm doing this selflessly for no profit whatsoever.  I just like this place as a wind down when I'm bored and I enjoy immensely reading all your views.  If I can do anything which keeps the reputation of the place up and not let idiots ruin it, I will do it.  Bellends be warned.

As far of those of you who are in for a shout of being the next moderator, and I have no idea who it's going to be, even if one is appointed, let me tell you that it is a difficult job, not everybody will agree with everything you do, and you will take criticism either way for either doing something or not doing something.  You can never win.  It's not a nice job to have and I have found that I spend more time dealing with problems, clearing stuff up, moving threads, deleting threads, PMing members than I actually do posting.  People have probably noticed most of my posts these days are of a similar type to this - explaining issues etc... I hardly ever post on football anymore to be honest because of the time being a moderator takes up.  There isn't much to sort out when everything is fine, but when you only get a spare hour to spend on the forum, and there is a problem, the whole hour is taken up sorting the problem and you don'tr get the chance to post.  See what I mean?

I understand exactly why JBG has left the position and support him fully.  He's been a great help to me since I've been in the 'job'.

As far as LFC' comments go, when I give someone five warnings, it's as good as a ban to be honest, there is no need to give me banning powers.  All the warned member can do is PM other members.  What's the point in that if everyone thinks the member is a tit anyway?

Unless it was BarryBelfast or Stu in the past who we were considering giving further chances to and didn't warrant having their accounts deleted, I'm not too bothered personally about not being able to delete accounts.  Barry was banned for a while and understands completely the consequences if the same happens again.  Stu was banned for months but actually contributes purely football discussion and no general chat and as much as you can be a twat Stu (in the nicest possible way of course) and I've had to have words with you a few times, you do contribute a lot to the place and that's good enough for me.

The five warning system is fine.  If people thought a little bit before they posted though, we wouldn't have complaints.......

I know it's not easy, some people might not have the best English skills for instance and just want to be welcomed to the forum and post one line stuff.  Fine, I know it annoys people, but you can't ban someone for it.  I can and usually do delete threads with one line openers because that is just annoying (only in the Liverpool areas, never in General Chat, I don't care what s*i*e gets posted in there.... as long as it's not racist or likely to start a flame war or anything).

Fuck, it annoys me.  I hate it when threads like that get started, just as it annoys all of you, but all you can do is point them to the forum rules, tell the offending members when starting topics that it's wise to actually have a debate and not just offer a one line opinion, throw two or three paragraphs at people offering an argument and asking what people think.  Is that too difficult?

Anyway, one of these days I might post something about Liverpool.........  :(

I'll look into it and see if Chris can introduce a hack onto the boards where the moderators can issue these topic starting limitations for new members in certain forums (obviously not the Introductions forum for instance.... you get the drift.....).

Too many new members starting s*i*e and it would directly lead to a higher quality of topic being started.

Good suggestion Leon.

Theres a possibility though John that someone might come on post one post. Read the threads then come up with a belting idea for another post. Not all newbies will be idiots and some will have points worth posting.

However some won't. I just think a zero tollerance towards certain threads and posts need to be taken. Some threads deserve deleting straight away. Put it this way... If someone started a thread...

will we beat blackpool?

I think yes, what about you...

It'd get deleted straight away, unless of course it had comedy value... :D

Then you get people like Cool_Hand_Luke posting a thread about Pongolle and Cisse at an "appropriate time" and his only word was Discuss... however if you looked at the thread, it was worth starting.

When Spion comes on with a new rumour every week, that deserves to be deleted/moved, when LiverpoolMadman starts a thread saying i think yes what about you, again, its got to go.

Banning newbies from starting threads though isn't the answer imho. MAYBE if you were to limit them to one thread a day untill they prove they are capable of posting in a sensible mannor... i don't know.. :censored: it al shut up! :D

On this point if you do not want to receive PM's from a particular member see the following:

Can I stop a member/s from sending me Private Messages?

Yes you can......

Click 'Your messenger' > 'Address Book'

Towards the bottom of the screen you will see an area titled 'Add a member'

Enter the 'Members name' and a description (if you wish) and then select 'No' in the 'Allow this member to message you?' drop down menu.

Finally click the 'Add this member to my address book'

This will add the member to your blocked senders list.

This will also add the member to you ignore list which will mean that their posts will be blocked-out with the words 'This member is in your ignore list and we have therefore blocked their post'

Agree, the point is its not a ban fro mthe start, just once a warning has been issues, then blatantly ignored.

Yeah, I actually worded that wrong Stu.  Newbies could start topics but if they are consistently :censored:, then they will be banned from starting new topics.  If they are good, no problem.

Bored out of my tits to be honest.  I watched Mission:Impossible 2 this morning and now I've got the City - Charlton game on and I'm not in the mood for it.  Might go the boozer later to watch the Valencia - Barcelona game if I can be bothered moving my arse.

to be honest Stu cant understand why you or anyone would want to be a mod really. After reading what johnnymac and JBG have to say on the subject it sounds like a right pain in the árse.I admit there have been times i've fell out with idiots and wished i could do more to get rid of them, but to be honest it sounds like more hassle than its worth.

I just think instead of ranting and having ago it'd be nice to have the option of being trigger happy on occassions which i think the mods currently are scared to do.

Sometimes its just about making a decision for the good of the forum and accepting the "concequences".

I also think the mods are to leanient with one or two people, myself probably being one of them in certain circumstances.

Certain threads and posts are made that need editing or just deleting from the word go. I'm not advocating great change, thats not what is needed at all, the forum's quality, whats needed though on occassions is someone to just put there foot down, get rid of :censored: and do the usual. Infact if i was a mod, Jonnymac, supersub and stmichael would probably be redundant  :D

Look at this mikeg :censored:, comes into a 5 page thread and post "pointless thread", i'd delete that straight away as it will cause arguements, and was a pointless post. Had he posted it in a LiverpoolMadman special, are we good i think yes what about you? then it wouldnt have any attention drawn to it. :D

I'd ban all the knobs to be honest.  I hate this place being ruined and after this week, I might start getting tougher on the idiots.  Still, you have to allow free speech, but when a newbie gets to about fifty posts and they have all been antagonistic towards other members, you know you have a piss taker.  I can be as trigger happy as you like.  I might spend a bit of time revising the forum rules, like they'll get fucking read though, by bellends who use text speak and the like.

This 'job' (like we fucking get any reward for doing it......) isn't as easy as people think, as I explained previously, and the criticism of the moderators isn't justified.
