Some of you guys are going overboard here. Whenever a result dun go our way, its not surprising to see threads like these popping up all over the forums.

Its already evidant from day one when we played at spurs (when we had like 20 scoring chances and yet failed to convert a single one) that we need an out and out striker. However Rafa has managed to turn that aorund and slowly, yet steadily, we have managed to turn things around.

People keep ranting about us needing a striker and that Cisse is poo (i agree that cisse is poo btw) yet some of you guys dont stop to think enough. Do u not think Rafa doesnt recognize the problem? But he has spent over a year building the team that he has now and it would be ludricious (maybe even suicide) to change the style now by buying another striker and changing the way we play just to accommodate that new striker. At the current moment, our play is centred around a solid midfield while the strikers (crouch especially) hold the ball up for the other attackers to come into play.

Even if Rafa did want to buy an out and out striker, there are few about whom are suitable and even fewer for the right price.

My bottomline is..

thought its damn painful to lose to a 91st min goal to the scum, we should just take things in our strides. disappointment and agony comes together with the ectasy and joy in football and thats the reason why football is such a popular sport.

We can all rant and urge the club to buy players whom we think will make a hugh impact upon arriving (but then again thats the same expectation of cisse when he arrived for 14mil) but then again, nobody (including rafa himself) will know how things turn out until he actually pays a sum for the new player and that player actually played a few games for the club.

So sit backand enjoy the ride. There will be ups and downs but let Rafa and the players do their jobs. At the end of the day, Rafa knows which players suit his system and which ones are inept. Its just that u cant chop and change anytime u want due to so many different factors. There are still so many important matches coming up and though it hurts like hell to lose to the scum (from a 91st min headed goal via a setpiece at that), we should still all look forward instead of back.

the point is we lose....if we draw or win that game, i think not many of us will urge rafa to do this or to do that..rafa know what he's doing. he will sell cisse next summer.

but its quite frustating to see we struggle against a depleted scum side. their midfield are not exist, they attack through left and right flank with evra and neville make the move. they knew that they cannot fight in the middle of the park. Every time they get the ball, it will channel to the flank. we can see how far can evra move forward everytime he got the ball.

we lose coz we don take our chances....that because we don had a decent striker that can guarantee 20 goals per season. scum got rooney and rude and they fail to score..my point is we must take this defeat and look forward for the next game. Rafa play for a win and we never control the game like scum did and rafa must asking himself why?

i agree with you effes, he was good with the system auxerre played but playing for the european champions is a different ball game...cisse was a fecking disgrace last night he didnt do one thing right did you see gerrard telling him off for not making his runs or fecking thinking...do we need a striker fuc.king a but i doubt we will see one in january, owen in the summer is odds on...we dont have a natural goal scorer in our team can anyone believe we lost that game last night...neville at the end fuc.k off and die you shi.tter :angry:

the truth is that we lost to a very depleted scum side. Both sides didnt really play to their full potential but thats to be expected in games like this where keeping it tight is the main piroity.

Giggs and Ferdinand did stand out for the scum though while i thought our only decent performer last night was finnan. Gerrard and kewell were mere pessangers while alonso hardly got involved. Hyypia and carra did well to snub out the giggs, rooney and horseface threats but lost concentration towards the end and allowed a free header from octopus head. That never shd have happened, but cant really point fingers at anybody as defending set pieces is the job of the whole team, not only the defenders and the goal keeper.

What was really disappointning though was the link between midfield and the strikers. It was non exisitent. Crouch did ok considering how little he got to see the ball. Ferdinand did a good job on him (credit is given when credit is due) Cisse was just plain poo.. he was on a different wavelength from the rest of the team fora hugh part of the 90mins. only significant contribution he had was a clever flick on to crouch to line up a shot which was blocked by wes brown in the 2nd half.

Take things easy guys. we will definitely bounce back. This defeat will hurt but stevie and the rest of the guys are professionals. Feel the backlash portsmouth.

I can't believe we still have people on here who would want Robbie Fowler back!

Yes we need a striker, but Fowler is yesterdays news.

Come on guys, getting beat by the mancs is hard to swallow, but there are loads of games still to play, we have 2 games in hand and if someone had told me we would finish in 2nd place at the start of the season I would have laughed at them.

Our team is growing under the nurture of Benitez and his team, we all know we are still a couple of players short, but we are so much better now than we have been for the last 10 years.

Man Utd are still a big team, and we matched and ouplayed them at every stage of yesterdays match. We where beat by a sucker punch! It happens...

Let the light shine through for a sec. I always believe in "blessings in disguise".
Yesterday's performance just made it qualifiy that we are in dire need of a prolific, natural, heinous goalscoring machines. We went 12 games without defeat and we were a little bit complacent towards getting a decent goalscorer. All we had been focusing on were CB and RM. IMO Cisse is not a Liverpool material and so is morientes.
We have a week at bay to secure another signings. If we were in the position to challenge Chelsea and progress through the next CL round, we need to sign somebody quick. I am sorry but I have lost faith in Cisse. I still have some reservation for morientes but not cisse. His display of attitude towards yesterday's game were just like his hairdo; meaningless and stupid.

There is a big fact that our current strikers/forwards have been getting away with murder this season, because the midfielders have been scoring therefore they havent really had that much of a backlash.

Maybe a little bit of Garcia magic might have made the difference yesterday he always chips a goal in when it matters, but still Cisse, Morientes and even Crouch where bought to score goals it is there job to put the ball into the back of the net.

Steven Gerrard is the top scorer this season for us, I said in the other topic he is the most important signing for us, just on this fact alone, goals win you games, how many goals would have been scored had he have left?

I know Mellor would'nt have even made the bench yesterday but had he have been on that pitch, he would have buried that shot that Cisse blasted over the bar.

We need to break the bank and buy a proven world class striker, since Michael Owen left no one has come in that is able to get 15/20 goals a season, Crouch wont give you this, neither will Morientes.

Stevie was missing in action yesterday maybe he is starting to throw his toys out the pram for being put on the right constantly, so we need a right winger a.s.a.p. if we dont want more rumours appearing at the end of the season.

He does play well on the right at home, but away from home he doesnt he drifts into midfield and Sissoko goes on the right and his passes go astray, plus stevie isnt a winger so he should be back into CM.

Surely there is someone out there we can bring in before the window shuts, if Gerrard gets injured whos going to get the goals?
Cause we cant rely on the current strike force we have to win games, the amount of chances we have in some games to cripple teams and finish them off in the first half is unbelieveable, but we dont and we make hard work of it.
Because there is no fox in the box no preditory finisher.

I know we are on the up but Ive been saying it all season we really do need a goal scorer because quite simply what we have just arnt good enough.

After reading some of these posts I have to say:

1 - Morientes doesn't deserve all the criticism he's had. He's been at the club for a year, during which time he's been plagued with numerous niggling injuries. He had half an hour on the pitch yesterday and failed to make much of an impact, but playing alongside Cisse was basically like playing up front on his own, it wasn't easy. The time might be right to sell him at the end of the season, but certainly not before. I think the best is yet to come from him and we may just come to appreciate him in the latter stages of the Champions league.

2 - Cisse is another story. He's garbage, I won't go into details as I have done on another thread, but he will be gone at the end of the season. However you can bet your house that Benitez won't sell him before this window closes. There is little time to find a replacement now, it's not going to happen.

3 - 'Bring back Fowler' is the ultimate knee-jerk reaction. A good goalscorer would help, but people seem to think that us having a great goal-scoring midfield is a problem. I think it's great to have 3 or 4 guys in the squad who consistently get goals from midfield. Would you rather be like United or Arsenal who can't buy a goal when Van Nistelrooy or Henry are injured? Give me our situation any day rather than relying on one player who gets all your goals.

I apreciate what your saying John but the fact is Morientes is a shadow of his former self, he has been injured quite a bit then it takes him 3-4 games to come back and play well we dont have the time to wait around the games are coming thick and fast, he done nothing against Everton, nothing against Spurs, nothing against ManU, he has scored 6 goals in over a year.
I like the bloke, but I like Liverpool more and want the best, and quite frankly him nor Cisse are just not good enough for Liverpool.

Agree with all of that. We can all see that Morientes has been a fantastic player and still posesses lovely touch and awareness. How many posters on here though think that he would cause our central defensive pairing of Sami and Carra any undue problems? Precisely.

We all know that Cisse is sh*t but what i dont understand is why he still gets a spot in important games... Start him (maybe gets some games off the bench) for the rest of the season then how much would that devalue him?? Think of what that extra game time would do to Sinima...... (When Garcia comes back he is another interesting option)
F#cking Cisse....... Even last year I groaned every time that he was brought on, you could tell that he had no football intelligence. People gave him too much love because he handled himself so well in interviews...
Unfortunately his inspirational speeches had no effect whatsoever

Maybe it's just me having trouble accepting that Morientes can't have declined so rapidly since joining us. The season before he had been excellent for Monaco, top scorer in the champions league and I remember him being a handful for the Chelsea defence in their games that season.

Surely he can't have regressed so badly in the half a season he then spent on the Madrid bench? The English game is quicker and he's clearly been having problems with that, but surely he's good enough to adapt. Plenty of slow players have been successful in the premiership in the past.

I just feel that he could still be good for us. Who knows what the Champions League holds for us again this season, but there are few players around who've had as much experience and success in that competition as Morientes, maybe he can produce on that stage if not the Premiership. Something has clearly not been right with him since he signed, but I'm not willing to write him off just yet.

morientes needs to be judged on a good run of games injury-free and getting plenty of opportunity from rafa, i think he's still got what it takes. losing zenden to injury hasn't helped as he was beginning to get some good balls in from the left although kewell has raised his game and is doing the same, if we can get a right winger pinging decent crosses in then maybe we'll see moro at his best
