It took a Manchester Liverpool game or two to convince us that despite being very competent and a nice bloke, Dudek wasn't the man to play between the sticks. No amount of shoot-out heroics will erase the memory of his antics against Manure, I haven't heard one single fan on here asking for Dudek to be brought back into the team, we know that ultimately he aint up to it. A similar fate befell Tim Howard when his last minute blunder put an unfancied and outplayed Porto team through in the Champions League at Old Trafford. As Mourhinho celebrated down the touchline Howard knew what Ferguson knew, that ultimately he wasn't ever going to be up to it. Anyone remember that game against Manure when we were 2-1 down with seconds left and the hapless Heskey has a glorious opportunity, only to slip on his erse and blaze it into the crowd? He knew what we and Houllier and the whole world knew. He was exposed as not being up to it. Thankfully Steve Bruce must have missed that one.
Today for me was Cisse's Dudek moment. It wasn't just that he missed from four yards in a game with so few chances. It wasn't the manner of his miss, the way he blazed it muiles over the bar in the fashion of a desperate man, snatching at the opportunity which had fallen into his lap. It wasn't his awful performance, bereft of any footballing intelligence or anticipation, punctuated with headless chicken blind alley running. It was his reaction a good 20 seconds after his miss. As he howled in derision at his own lack of calmness and wasteful ineptitude you could see it his eyes, he knew what we all now know. He aint up to it.
Take what we can and get rid sooner rather than later is now my stance.

good response mick.

watersheds? there cant be many left in our squad to unearth now. take the money rafa.

Well i feel sick after the loss today , it hurts to control a game away for 90 mnts and unfairly lose. but as CGGY said it was obvious that we lack a poacher in the team even thru our unbeaten run , the defense was always carrying the team in keeping clean sheets and the forwards missing 90% of their chances. for sure we r a much better team now and i think all of us knew that we r 2 players from being the team we all want so i'm sure that Rafa too knows this well , as for Cisse well i just cant defend him anymore , he is not a reliable for a team challenging for titles , morientes, crouch, baros,SFP all had problems in playing alongside him so u can guess where the problem is . Last, i know we r all hurt by this loss but we should stick with the team coz honnestly they tried hard but it just wasnt their day.
thanx

Espanyol to target Morientes
By Mark Kendall -  Created on 22 Jan 2006

Reports in Spain claim that Espanyol will target Liverpool striker Fernando Morientes if Jose Antonio Camacho is appointed sport director at the start of next month.

Camacho will take up the post if Claudio Biern wins the club's presidential elections in February.

Biern, who is fronting a group called 'Nou Espanyol', has promised to install the former Spain coach and insists he will then look to target two major signings.

The first of those is Barcelona forward Javier Saviola who is currently on loan at Sevilla.

Espanyol attempted to sign the Argentine international last summer but were frustrated by their Catalan neighbours who did not want to see the player move to their cross-city rivals.

Biern is confident, though, that with the financial backing of his group he will be able to push through a deal for Saviola next summer with the player clearly not fitting into the plans of Barca boss Frank Rijkaard.

Espanyol's second high-profile target has now emerged as Morientes, with sources in Spain citing Camacho's close friendship with the player as the key to any deal.

The two linked up during Camacho's stint as Spain boss with the former Real Madrid coach a staunch fan of the striker's qualities.

It appears unlikely that Liverpool would consider offloading Morientes with the 29-year-old a key component in Rafa Benitez's Reds squad.

However, Biern is reported to be ready to launch a sustained assault for the hit-man and is hopeful that his financial muscle and Camacho's friendship could convince the player to return to Spain.

Meanwhile, Espanyol are close to agreeing a new deal with Daniel Jarque, the defender is expected to put pen to paper on a contract that runs until 2009 next week.

Take the money Rafa.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

i've said for ages that we need an out and out goalscorer. people said that owen was overpriced but at the end of the day if he scored 20 league goals he'd be a snip.

cisse is garbage, end of story. auxerre must be laughing all the way to the bank that we paid £14m for him.

Gotta disagree with ya, mate! We played 4-4-2, so we played to win! The problem is we have no strikers of the necessary class!! We need a top class striker, capable of scoring from half chances! We had full-blown chances today and no one could stick it away. We won't challenge for the title unless we sort things out at the cutting edge! Defensively, we're champs!! Mid-field, we're best in Europe, Up front? Utter :censored:! :veryangry

Well by bringing in Kromkamp we moved into a defensive mode, where we were more than happy to sit out the rest of the game.  Benitez was playing for a win, but didnt see how much the fans wanted us to go all out and take it convinvingly.

A few weeks ago I got slated for suggesting we cut our losses and sell Cisse and bring Fowler back as a short term solution to our striking problems.  Since then Robbie has hit purple patch while Cisse's value continues to wane.  Earlier in the transfer window we may still have convinced somebody to part with £7 million for Cisse, but his recent performances have proved he is a second rate player.

We don't need a striker who can do the 100 metre sprint in less than 10 seconds.  We don't need a striker with fancy tricks and a funny hair cut.  We need a goal poacher who will thrive on the opportunities created by this modern Liverpool team, a deadly finisher to feed off Crouchs hard work, someone to get on the end of Kewell and Finnans crosses, a striker who will sweat blood for Liverpool and as a bonus someone who will not cost alot of money.......bringing back Robbie Fowler doesn't seem like a bad idea after all.

absolutely RIGHT ON THE MONEY Bigmick, this was indeed cisse's "dudek moment" and i think even the most benevolent of us here have now succembed to the fact he'll be on his way in the summer (or sooner with a bit of luck and a decent replacement!)

both myself and stu the red have said it since day one.

despite him scoring some goals, the guy's never a footballer. he can't control a ball, he endlessly runs offside and he can't finish. when you think that we paid £14m for him (admittedly not the current manager) it's a joke.

some of the midfield play was very good but as soon as it got to cisse the move broke down. why crouch was subbed ahead of him i'll never know.

If Cisse was just'missing chances' we could all say give him time!! Yes he had has time but being the patient lot we are we may have given more!
This is not the case.
He has one attribute in pace..after that i struggle to think of another!
He cannot read the rest of the team.
He's huffy
He's arrogant
He does not make runs that strikers need to in the game especially now, when teams are putting more and more emphasis on the offside trap and refs are bowing to home pressure to blow the whistle.
He is soooooo fuc.king lazy
In fact he makes me sick
If he cared more about the team that is his bread and butter and less about his flamboyant style and crusade to be an individual and to stand out from the rest he may get somewhere!
For me he stands out like a sore thumb on an almost perfect hand..
Say what you all want people..todays effort from Cisse was a disgrace to our shirt and no excuses or reasoning will change my opinion of that!
He's an arrogant lazy bast.ard who highlights everything that LFC is not about..Best send the useless piece of sh.ite back to France and good riddance!

Yes we need an out and out striker...i'd loose Moro and Cisse tomorrow and give young Pongo a blast up front with Crouch..i really feel it would work and the lad really wants it!I've said before that Pongo can go far.
My biggest concern was his lack in the build department but he appears to be putting on a bit!
Why not play him ??
Could he possibly be any worse than Cisse??
No way! I have never in my life seen an LFc player lack commitment like Cisse does or make me feel as disgusted!
Really dont know what more to say apart from ditch Cisse now..i really feel he can do more harm than good with his attitude and it can only affect team morale in a negative way.
Make no mistake that our boys will be watching the match tomorrow at Melwood and how could that looser ever pull on a LFC shirt again!
He's not fit to shi'te in an Anfield toilet never mind kick a ball!

Sorry for the rant but we all have to vent!

I must admit, I wanted Cisse to start today but he had a dreadful match.
I know the French league is fairly weak, but Auxerre must have used Cisse in a different way to us.
He's come to us and is having to adapt to Rafa's way and he's failing miserably. He doesn't have the football brain required.
I think he's too belligerent for Rafa to work with.
He;'ll be gone in the Summer.
