what happened to justin fashanu over 15 years ago has probably stopped any other gay footballer from coming out. attitudes haven't really changed a bit since those days, sadly.

there's an account of his experience as a gay black footballer here if anyone's interested. it's written by peter tatchell so may not be completely objective, but as far as i know all the facts are (ahem) straight.

People should just accept other people and let them get on with their lives the way they see fit, if they dont harm anyone else then its ok

There was more to Fashinu's death, wasn't there?

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't he on the run because of allegedly having sex with a 15 year old boy?

apparently his suicide note denied it, claiming that he was being blackmailed by the accuser

why is this thread a mistake, red? the fact that no footballers come out as being gay, even though there must be many, is an interesting issue in my book. not that there is much chance of an intertesting discussion of it on here, mind...

I remember reading an article in Loaded or FHM or something a few years ago in which they talked about athletes in a particular sport being successful, despite obvious disadvantages, e.g., they had an interview with an NBA basketballer who was only 5 foot three.

They also had an interview with an Australian rugby player who was openly gay. Any rugby fans know who that is? Fair play to him for having the balls in coming out in those circumstances.

Live and let live is what I say.

There was an account by a gay Premiership player in a tabloid or mag a few years back, but they kept his identity secret.
So they are there - they just don't want us to know!!!!!
