Sammy Lee, I used to love watching him as a kid, even named my goldfish after him, it was actually called Sammy Lee, lol, I only found out from my parents that I actually had about 6 Sammy Lee's untill I came down one morning and actually found him floating on his side
The most underrated player in the past forty years was Geoff Strong. He played in every position for Liverpool and never let the side down once. He was the most versatile and 'unsung' hero in Liverpool's history. The next player was Chris Lawler - a classy right back who scored more goals than most forwards do now -and he never took penalties to boost his figures. The last choice would be Willie Stevenson who was the best left half I have ever seen at Liverpool. He never got the international credit either because Scotlands regular wing half was Jim Baxter - who was the best wing half in the world at that time. Just a few golden oldies to stir my memories.
Steve McMahon slotted into our midfield and was a regular powerhouse and i say underrated because he also possessed a good footballing brain, and could really pick a pass out,and i dont think he got the credit he warranted
Rob Jones was my personal favourite. The only reason he did get the odd mention was for his lack fo scoring although if it was hitting the post/crossbar in important matches, robJones would be up there with the best!
