Houllier blames the critics - "they have zapped our confidence"

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Please shut up Kermit, I can't stand another season of your excuses. Is there anyone Houllier hasn't blamed? The fans, the critics, the players, the ref...........

Taken from bbc.co.uk

Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier admitted his side's confidence has been hit by some fierce criticism this season.
But the Anfield chief called for his players to raise their game with "seven cup finals" left for them to claim a Champions League place.

"We have taken so much stick this season it has been affecting the players' confidence," said Houllier after Sunday's win against Blackburn.

"We have been told we have been producing 'garbage' and that is wrong."

The 4-0 defeat of struggling Blackburn saw Liverpool move back above Newcastle into fourth place.

Michael Owen returned from injury to score two fine goals and an Andy Todd own goal and a late effort from Emile Heskey secured the three points.

Houllier said: "It was a good game, a good performance and I am proud of my players. We started very well and the game was over in 25 minutes.

"We applied our basic principles and we have played better and not got anything from games this season. But this time we got the result we deserved.

"Our passing, movement and interchanging was outstanding. You work on things on the training ground and sometimes they do not come off, but this time they did."

------------------------------------------------------------

So if we tot up the points we've deserved, the points we would have won but for injuries and the points the fans, critics and refs have cost us we'd be home and dry Champions!

You build confidence by winning games. When you win games you get positive media reports etc. It is not the responsibility of the supporters to babysit overpaid underperformers. Simple?

This blaming the fans and critics thing is nonsense in my opinion.

Last season we went through a terrible run of 13 games without a win but by and large the fans stuck by Houllier. People have only turned on him this season as we are now well into our second year of mediocrity.

I mean, Houllier has had his critics and people are annoyed, but apart from the fool who made the death threat and the retard that put grafitti at Melwood the criticism has been fairly mild as compared to what you'd see at other clubs.

I think Houllier's comments were a smug two fingered salute to his critics after a good (but possibly once off) win but I wonder who will have the last laugh?

AS a fan I sincerely hope Houlleir does by winning us the league, but my head tells me that it will be his critics.

Houllier is stubborn and selfish. After his mistreatment of Anelka, Westerveld, Xavier etc he deserve the same in return.

Never mind JBG, if the rumour is true we will at last be shut of him. Mikey signs a new contract, new mgr comes in (MON ? ) and team selections / tactics start to make sense. :D

So what did he actually say that was so wrong again? I don't get it.

He states that we have recieved massive amounts of critisism this season, which is true and that it has affected the players confidence which is also true.

At no point does he blame this season on the press at all. You are putting your own spin on things. Look at the quotes not the garbage around it.

You have got your tongue so far up Fooliers a*se , if you push it an inch or two further maybe you could actually speak for him.I'm glad (if true) that our comments have affected the players confidence. There have been times when they all needed a good kick up the a*se .Your attitude seems to suggest that we should remain mute and accept any sh*t that the team and your bum chum Foolier serve up to us. I've said it before and I'll say it again ......

What'd you expect?  This is how one acts when he has no standards.  I'm glad we won but we beat a horrible Blackburn side with a bad manager and Houllier thinks he's proved his point.  I am more than embarrassed for LFC to be associated with this man.

Arsenal and Real Madrid just got eliminated from the CL.  I guess Houllier is going to say we are just as good as the mentioned teams because their CL run ended at the quarter finals...just like ours.

And we're going to hear some excuse from Stu, who thinks he has some supernatural power and knows exactly what Houllier is thinking.  Stu, the fans pay good money.  They reserve the right to express their feelings.  Most often than not, they don't have to analyze what Houllier is thinking to know what they like and don't like.  Simple as that you moron.

Oh Houllier, why didn't you say so earlier in the season?  What a disgrace.  I am embarrassed for LFC to be associated with this moron.

Banana.  Some people go through life making excuses.  They lie to themselves.  Once they're convinced with their own deceptions, they try to convince others of their own delusions.  Simple?

I've said this on another thread...I don't care if Houllier brings us the league title in the future.  He's a coward

Real Madrid will not accept a quarter final exit from CL. Quieroz is under pressure now. There is a big difference between us and them. The players and the manager know they will be sacked unless they bring silverware every season. They have to stay focused at all times and give 100%. "nd place is failure. Houllier seems to be happy to finish fourth 30 points behind Arsenal. When you accept failure and mediocrity that's exactly what you end up with.

I am not in favor of sacking the manager every year, but after 5 years of mismanagement..... yes

Also: I have on a number of occasions launched Guily as a must-buy and after his performances over the last few month + his two goals against RM tonight I say it again
