Yes, this is the system that Rafa uses, and it can work in the EPL. But I think we need to play with a higher tempo than what Valencia did under Rafa. We need a more intense tempo and better movement and I hope Rafa is looking at this.
I still believe that Rafa is looking at addressing 4 positions in the first team, and when he gets his players then we will be able to tell whether he can make it work in the EPL.
Centre Back - Well documented that he is looking for a centre back. Hyypia is still a very good centre back but his speed and fitness let him down. We need someone who is younger, quicker, fitter and he has to be at least as good a defender Hyypia, that sort of player isn’t easy to find and he will probably cost a fair amount of money.
Right Midfield - We have no right sided midfield player at the club. We need 2 in my opinion, a back up and a first teamer. We need a genuine high quality, modern day winger who is two footed, can go inside and out, has pace, is positionaly aware defensive wise, and can at least get into double figures in terms of goals. Again it is not easy to find a player of this quality who is available, plus we can expect to pay a high fee when we find him.
Left Midfield - Zenden and Riise are competent and can do a good job there while we are building, but in the long term we definitely need better. Kewell of old would definitely have been the answer, we can keep hoping he comes good, but Rafa is not counting on him and we shouldn’t either. Maybe Gonzalez is the answer? But it needs to be addressed in the long term, and the same attributes are needed as that of a potential right sided midfield player (i.e. We need a genuine high quality, modern day winger who is two footed, can go inside and out, has pace, is postionaly aware defensively wise, and can at least get into double figures in terms of goals.).
Striker - I know we bought Crouch for 7MIL, but I don't think Rafa ever bought him to be our main man up front, there is definitely more to come from Morientes but he will never be a genuine success in the EPL. I still think Rafa is looking for a genuine centre forward to lead the line and get 20 goals a season, he has to be a 'dynamic' modern day forward who can fit into Rafa style. Rafa has admitted that he has watched Dirk Kuyt and is interested, Cisse will leave as soon as the right offer comes in and Rafa can find a suitable replacement.
Let’s be honest, can we expect Crouch, Zenden and Pongolle to be our main attacking threat, it looks quiet pathetic when you compare it to the 'big three'.
i think yes what about you
