I may be wrong here but to me it would seem that one of the main reasons the noise volume is much louder, and there is more singing at CL games is there are more local supporters at the CL games?..and a lot of those who travel up to the prem games dont make it to the European nights. I have noticed that a lot of supporters who sing you'll never walk alone dont realise there are two verses to this anthem, and after one chorus they start clapping? obviously "outa towners" :nod

thank you, some one points out the idiots who clap.

maybe some fans should stop @rsing around on their mobiles and concentrate on the footy and getting behind their team.

Definately more locals that attend the midweeks, but I reckon its just simply the occasion.  I reckon naturally people get more excited watching Juve, Barca, Vs Liverpool compared to Wigan, Birmingham, etc.  The atmosphere for big home games are usually pretty good Arsenal last season springs to mind, Chelsea on New years day was another and I am sure when we play Chelsea in the league early october it will be buzzing.

I raised this over a year ago when we played Lefski Sofia - too much of the crowd are silent. I was batted down at the time because I was a 'newbie' - "heart on the right place", "how many times does a new guy come on declaring undying love" - yada, yada, bo!!ocks.

I'm based in the Upper Cenetenery - which, to be honest, for atmosphere, ain't great, but you take what you're dealt. The occasion makes it, so i'd agree with Jari - without doubt, the best game I have ever been to was last season's Semi wil Chelski (with Dalglish on that one), with Olympiakos a close second.

Which brings me to a preference of mine - I prefer night games to weekend fixtures. Atmosphere's better (maybe because all scousers, maybe not) and the banter is ace. Again, down to the occasion.  It's like anything I suppose - if you play footy yourself, you'll know you're more up for the big games like semis, finals etc, than the bottom of the league team. :)
