The anfield roar - What about the premiership ?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby 66-1112520797 » Fri Aug 26, 2005 10:44 am

Ok i did mention this before in another thread .

The famous Anfield roar only seems to surface when we play in these big european games. When it comes to the premiership though it seems the the Anfield faithful are so more subdued.

How can  we expect the players to be up for it when the crowd dont even seem up for it ??
Im sure the team would end up in a better league position if we had the european roar week in week out.

Maybe some of the supporters on here who go to the home games could shed some light on this ?

Is it a fair point or not ?

I havent been to Anfield for a while now ,but i have heard this question being asked before.

unfortunatley i havnt been able to go to CL games since the ill fated Basel Valencia Moscow group, i only get to EPL games now because of the cost. Because of this i always feel cheated when i comes to the EPL games cos the atmosphere is awful, people coming in late with bags n chips, mumbling YNWA no effin scarfs up !!!!
get it sorted you twis, though i doubt that any of themare on this forum.

It all depends on whether the Kop are standing. I am normally in block 305 of the Kop (behind the goal, over half way up) and I prefer to stand, you feel really part of it then and tend to sing at the top of your voice. When seated, it is just not the same. (can you imagine the likes of Freddie Mercury and Mick Jagger singing at concerts while sitting down? you wouldn't get the same energy, would you?).
Unfortunately, people only seem willing to stand in must win games i.e. derby games, european knockout stages.
I, personally, would like to be on my feet at all games, but you feel compelled to sit down when 5000 people in front of you sit down.
I was at the semi versus Chelsea, and the hairs still stand up on the back of my neck whenever I recall the atmosphere that night. Even the comatose centenery stand was bouncing. If that atmosphere was created week in week out, I think we would win every home game (without a doubt).
So come on lads, it's all down to the front few rows of the Kop, stay on your feet. And to the rest of Anfield, try and out sing the Kop!

I think you've all been spoiled - I hardly ever get to Anfield (and never for a euro tie) but when I do (about 1 game a season if I'm lucky) the noise coming from the Kop always gives me goosebumps.

Im not bein funny, but the player's are paid enough and are good enough to perform week in and week out. I know that someone cheering you on gives you that added impetus but in all fairness all of our players should be motivated every time they have the liverbird upon their chest.

Not true.

Footballers are entertainers. You watch football to be entertained. You watch TV to be entertained. You listen to music to be entertained.

Could you imagine watching a comedian do a stand up performance and nobody laughs. Do you think his performance will get better as his act goes on? Or do you think he will get worse?

It is the same with footballers.

Sure, they are paid a lot of money to do a job, but reminders of why they are doing that job (which is to make us happy), makes them play even better.

Remember the twelfth man in the champions league!

I don't get to many games 'cos of the cost and also the fact that it's bloody impossible to get tickets 'cos of all the prwan sandwich munchers coming up from the south for the weekend. I think that it has to be down to the southerners 'cos i doubt if many of them can get upto the mid-week games. Perfect case in point of this was the home blackburn game last season; 'cos it was a midweek game the club was struggling to sell tickets for it and this was one game that i did manage to get to; the atmosphere wasn't that brilliant but anyone that can remeber the game will know why:) . the european nights seem would seem to be alot better 'cos there are more diehard local fans able to get in and they are more determind to make the most of it.

i went the sunderland game last week and no1 was singing at all apart from the away fans, and their one song summed it up for me "1-0 up and you still dont sing"

i was at the olympiakos game last season at home when we won 3-1 and without fail there would be a new song every second, it baffles me as to why

and if the 'roar' was there week in week out i think we'd finsih with a few more points to be honest, its intimidating for the opposition and gives our guys a huge lift, but then again if that happens it would just be a normal night at anfield all the time and become harder and harder to create (sp) the special nights
