Best team possible verses pompey - I hope

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby The_Rock » Mon Mar 15, 2004 3:56 pm

We have 10 more games to go. Hopefully we win all of them so that :

a)we qualify for champions league.
b)we have the base to mount challange next season
c)get the respect of the fans back.

Hopefully the best performing team will be picked. This is mine.

                                    Dudek
          Carragher     Henchoz    Hyppia     Riise
                                   Hamann
           Gerrard             Cheryou             Kewell
                                   Baros
                                  Heskey

Dudek        - with kirkland injured, no choice.
Carragher   - He started to attack more. So better suited to
right back when he can cross better
Hen & Hyp  - The best we have now. got to live with that.
Riise          - Looked OK against southampton. Time to give
                  him a run.
Gerrard      - No one in the current team can perform well  in
this problematic position. Gerrard has to fill it as
he is the only one that can do justice to this
                  position at this moment.
Cheryou     - Works hard. Need his goals real bad.
Hamann     - With H & H centreback partnership, hamann has
                  to play as anchor man.
Kewell       - Although not really on form at the moment,
maybe riise running down the flank will take
some workload  & pressure of him. Hopefully he
                  will eventually start to perform.
Baros         - Will play him, just behind the main striker. Give
him a sort of free role for him to create havoc.
At the moment, my favourite liverpool player.
Heskey       - Never will i have thought that , i will pick
heskey ever again this season, but this is how
desperate the situation has become. But to be
fair to heskey, if he had played as the out & out
target man (similar to vieri), he might have
turned out as an awsome striker. But Gh HAD to
play him as a left winger........ On a side note,
Heskey did  play quite well when he came on.

And Owen is dropped..............

Dudek
Carragher
Henchoz
Hyypia
Riise
Diouf
Gerrard
Murphy
Kewell
Owen
Baros

at home against portsmouth i can't see the logic of playing hamann. i mean he virtually ends up playing as another centre back and lets face it, portsmouth are just going to come and frustrate us, like the fa cup game. it's not like they're gonna throw men forward. owen will play whatever and i still fancy him to score. murphy should be given one more chance although if le tallec was fit i'd have chosen him.

i wouldnt drop owen, what good would that do, itd just knock his confidence even more. What owen needs now is loyalty from both the fans and the manager if this is shown to him i would expect him to return the favour by signing a new contract at the end of the season. Just stand by him and the form will return..

id play

dudek
finnan
hyypia
carragher (centre henchoz looks shakey)
riise

Kewell
hamman
Gerrard
murphy

owen
baros

Playing murphy & Diouf........... 2 passengers in the same team......... can be hazardous. Without Hamann, Gerrard has to then do all the donkey's work.... which will affect the team's attack play.

murphy's another guy who's low on confidence this season. i think being voted player of the season by supporters last season has gone to his head. anyway at home to portsmouth surely yo could play diouf just behind the front two and play gerrard more on the right. he's got grat delivery anyway.

what about a front six of:

                              Owen        Baros

                                      Diouf

          Kewell                                             Gerrard

                                     Hamann

I get the feeling that even Owen does not really want to play at the moment. Not sure what is the reason (could be confidence problem or already thinking of his next team). Not sure what will be the impact if he has another shocking game this wed.......

I would sub Cheyrou for Diouf. Diouf is more skillful but Cheyrou can score goals. Will take him any day ahead of diouf. Might be tempted to play Diouf for Owen..... but you guys might not like it....  :p

agree..think Cheyrou is much better as attacking midfielder compared to Diouf. he knows when to make attacking runs into opponents box and get the vital goals. Diouf got the trickery but he seems unable to strike the ball well enough.

attacking six like st micheals choice would work. Diouf just cant strike a ball. Back four of carra H and H and riise with finnan coming on for Henchoz and swapping with Carra

Just because Diouff has a lot of tricks doesn't mean he's "skillful".

Skill involves good first touch, an ability to pass and shoot with both feet, balance, a good brain....er, things which Diouff doesn't have in abundance.

Can I just point out that 4th place does not qualify a team for Europe, It gives the team a chance to qualify for europe.

Anybody interested in a  couple of tickets for the Portsmouth game on Wednesday ? No , their NOT mine , i'll be there. My mate and his wife sit behind me and she has just had a baby so they wont be travelling. They ask £20 per ticket and i can meet you on the night outsie the ground, more details on enquiry. Ian :)
