He'll do well in Spain but there are too many players in the Premiership that can outrun him.

Sell him only if we have cover for him. Barragan cant do the job yet hes too young.

Josemi is a liability even though he's cover for Finnan.

Age means nothing. Look at fabregas at Arsenal, he is only 17(maybe just turned 18, not too sure) and therefore younger than  Barragan.
What about Rooney?? he wasnt too young to score a cracker on his debut against Arsenal, again wasnt he just 17 at the time?

If you are good enough you are old enough. (within reason of course, we cant play 14yr olds for example!)

Baptista has decided to stay mainly because if he does then he will get a Spanish passport and that means that somebody has to go, and I think that it will be Alves.

the only thing i worry about if alves does come is what are we going to do with two top right backs. Alves will want alot of playing time coming from sevilla as a starter. I know we can do what chelsea is doing, but i think alves might complain if he doesnt get enough playing time. We could save money by buying someone from a lower league or from a different team.

Maybe thats why in games Rafa has been taking the oppertunity to play Medjani at right back to see how he copes and i reckon he looks more than decent enough to cover finnan and a much better prospect than Josemi, theres also Barragan so i dont see much problem in getting rid of him.

He must have been doing alright in Spain for Rafa to sign him but has had his chance and not been good enough. I certainly won't be losing any sleep if he goes, in fact I will sleep easier...

Woof he's done well in Spain and he's going to do well in Spain. The Premiership is another ball game, too many pacey players that can get him caught out of position and that can out run him.

the only thing i worry about if alves does come is what are we going to do with two top right backs. Alves will want alot of playing time coming from sevilla as a starter. We need competition for RB spot, I'm not sure Medjani is going to be competition for Finnan especially because he's a CB. I'd sign Alves, because we're going to play alot of games. More than plenty enough for both Finnan and Alves

Well obviously!!!

I think he was bought because of his quite aggresive style that he has, as we all know all to well it looks as though he actually enjoys getting 'stuck in'.

Imagine his style of play in La Liga, he must have been a right pain for the wingers over there (as the game in general, is more slow and precise!) with crunching tackles week in, week out. He was probably a 'hard man' in Spain because of his style and thats probably why Rafa decided to buy him - feeling that he would be 'suited' to the English game and what it involves.

When he first started he looked really decent (decent is not enough btw!!) apart from his obvious LACK of pace!! I think we were all pleasantly surprised by his commitment in the challenge etc; (as many believe 'foreigners' such as those of Latin descent not being 'up to it'!).

But he made a few mistakes and i can recall the game were he gve a late free kick away and they scored a header from the free kick (cant remember oppo, was mabe Palace or Birmingham I think at home and SG scored quite late on, the 'I am the man' episode I believe!!!) and he was TOTALLY LAMBASTED (finger pointing in his face, the lot) by Rafa WHILST walking toward the tunnel - MAYBE this affected him, maybe it was clear Rafa was extremly angry at the two points dropped - Who knows?  But something happened and it has been a steady decline ever since!!

So Rafa made a mistake, WE ALL do, this is not a problem when you consider the others he has brouught in!!

The sale of Baros,Josemi and maybe Dudek plus the money we have, will help us get Alves and Andrade, two defenders that would really strengthen our back four
