Are we good enough to challenge

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby A.B. » Tue Jul 19, 2005 4:44 am

Well according to Gerrard we didn't have a chance of winning the CL[stated that after we knocked out Leverkusen]. Didn't we win something on May 25th in Istanbul?? Oh yeah thats right, the Champions League.

I think Carra is saying what he is in order not to put any pressure on the team by raising the expectations too much.

Don't get me wrong, despite all this "realism statements", I am a die hard Liverpool fan, since 1975 when I first saw Keegan with that big hairdo of his, terrorising the opposition defenders.

I would welcome any way we win the EPL, be it with a high scoring and highly entertaining side or just by the boring way George Graham's "1-0" Arsenal team did in 1988-89.

Cautions need to be heeded and consistency need to be introduced in this campaign.

If Alonso and Gerrard partnership works and maintain their best standard we do mount a serious challenge  :eyebrow

There are just too many if. But if Lampard, Terry, Makelele, Duff, Robben and Cech are out, we can win for sure haha! Put that aside, I think we should have no problem attaining top three as we lost a lot of 1-0 game and I'm sure this will be changed. We should also be more consistent this year when playing away. I don't know about you but I seriously think we can win the EPL. :)  Just keep our finger crossed.

this season we definitely will close the gap and any top three finish and i am happy. rafa is overhauling the team and it will take time to settle especially the recruits from foreign league. a good run in the CL and i will be ecstatic.

On our day we can beat any team thats sent against us ,even one thats given a 3-0 start :D  but can we as a team turn in 38 heroic performances ? No  :no

Arsenal ,unbeaten for an entire season , Chelsea losing just the one league game. That is the level of consistency that's now apparently required to win the premiership .We could quite conceivably go through this season unbeaten against the likes of Chelsea Arsenal etc but lose to  Birmingham Portsmouth Charlton etc. Chelsea didn't win the league just because millions were poured into the club but because their players went out every game with immense self belief and the will to win . Until all our players ,not just the Carras and Hypia's can show 100% determination and effort in EVERY game we cannot hope for more than finishing an uncomfortable 4th , or with luck maybe 3rd.

I'll take a top 4 finish, one better than last season and lets go from there. Try and keep the gap between us and top to under 20 points. any better than that I'll be as happy as Larry!
Rafa knows what he's going, lets build for the future.

Thinking about the other contenders, only Chelsea have strengthed there squad! Arsenal have lost Vierra and Manc scum have bought that Asian bloke. We're not in a bad postition for a 2nd place finish!
