Liverpool have confirmed they expect Jamie Carragher to sign a new long term contract at Anfield before the end of the week.
Carragher was the Reds' outstanding player last season and Liverpool have moved quickly to reward him with a new deal.

The news will come as a further boost to Liverpool fans who are still celebrating Steven Gerrard's decision to stay with the club.

Liverpool have also revealed that Dietmar Hamann has now signed his new one year deal while Djimi Traore has also put pen to paper on a long term contract.

Chief executive Rick Parry said: "It's been a busy summer so far but we're happy with what we're doing.

"We've been talking with Jamie Carragher and we expect the contract to be signed before the end of the week. He was outstanding for us last season and is clearly a big part of our plans.

"Didi has signed his contract, we signed Djimi Traore yesterday and of course we've already made a number of new signings since the end of last season."
