Riise - In rafa's plans?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby JC_81 » Sat Jul 02, 2005 1:52 pm

I think we can near enough all agree that last season was Riise's best for the club.

However, with the Zenden signing confirmed, Gonzalez on his way and Rafa's apparent confidence in Kewell (started in 2 cup finals despite dodgy fitness), competition will be hot for the left midfield spot.

Then i thought about whether he'll play left back now.  But then why would Rafa offer Traore a new deal?  If Riise was 1st choice LB and we had warnock as able back-up then Traore wouldn't really be needed ???

Anyway, I'm starting to get the feeling that Riise may be on his way out, maybe not this close season, but maybe in January if he's not getting a game.  I think last season was as well as he could play and it may not be enough :(

You used to make me think that you where a bit young, but with this statement you simply confirm you are an idiot.

IMO, Gonzales will be used on the right as Nunez was not so reliable last season. Zenden and Kewell to fight for left wing starting place, while Riise will be as Left Back and Warnock as cover for him. Troare has impressed last season and i guess he will be used as cover for Central defenders.

Rafa will apparently use a lot of squad rotation this season.

You must have no clue if you think that riise has no place in the managers plans after having his best season in professional football under the guy.

I posted a question and my opinion, not a statement.

And just because he had his best season at the club means he is in the manager's long term plans??

What about Biscan then?

Totally agree. Riise's class control passing skill and vision make him the ideal left winger.

After all, he's exactly like Duff, Robben, Vicente and Downing... a real winger. I mean the fact he's lazy, can't win a header, can't defend and his natural position isn't left back has nothing to do with it.

???

For :censored: sake, the lad played there last season because he was forced into it and he done a fantastic job. Next season he'll be in his natural position and will be a valuable member of the FIRST 11.

oh Stu stop those smiley faces, its just not right

I hope JAR can back up last great season with another one and not fadea way like after his debut season. He  certainly is one of several Liverpool players whose stocks has risen with arrival of Rafa

Risse is not a winger. Duff,Robben and Vicente are very different players.

Vicente likes to play on the flanks and i mean 'on the flanks' he likes taking the ball deep near the corner post.

Duff has a bit of both, he playes wide, drifts in playes up sometimes, down sometimes.

Robben is unique, he can do anything he sets his mind to .. he cuts in a lot .. he changes direction with each step - got a lot of indivudiality to his game - not your regular winger.

Downing is a good winger with amazing crossing ability.

Risse however i dont believe would qualify as a 'Winger' in the literal sense. He does a decent job out there and has a cracker of a left foot, but to be a winger he needs to add a lot more to his game.

Just my openion.
