I liked him on TV and I always think when people die out of the blue like this it is a shame, he was a well liked man.
No I didn't know Richard Whiteley and no I won't be going to his funeral but I've spent 2 thirds of my life seeing him on tv most weeks and thought he was a genuine, likeable and funny guy so I don't think it's an exercise in shedding crocodile tears or indulging in false sentimentality
