Well, it does make you wonder what Rafa could get out of Vladi if he was here for another year and was fully fit. I mean, we only need to look at what has happened with the likes of Traore and Biscan to see that Benitez can get the best out of players.

I find it hard to take that someone who cares that much for the club is going out the door, yet some others remain who's passion for the club is questionable to say the least.

But that's the real problem isn't it?

Smicer has the skills and the attitude. But he has been riding one injury after another. If he stays, it will probably be for another year of physiotherapic treatment.

He scored a wonderful goal last night and he held up the ball pretty well i must say. Never gave it away and kept his head cool.

Let's face it. Smicer, and in particular Hamann played a key role in our comeback last night.

I have been a big smicer basher but will give credit where its due. You proved me wrong last night and signed off your liverpool career in the best possible way. You will not be remembered for your lightweight premiership displays but your memorable performance last night when you showed a side to your game I thought was lacking. Thank You Vladi and you will be remembered for last nights memorable individual and team performance.  :buttrock

Saved the best till last is what I reckon.

Saw him on BBC news tonight, he (and a few other players) gave interviews at JLI airport. He was beaming from ear to ear.

What a great way for Vladi to bow out from the club, he was class last night

I'll probably get berated for sating this though, but maybe he would be signing a new contract with us if he produced this type of performances a bit more regularly ???

You're probably right - at least a one year contract!

We certainly owe a lot to "the flops" this season. Their wages and transfer fees all justified by one cup run, fantastic.
Smicer just did everything right. He played like he wanted to be part of Liverpool so much, and even if the medal was his motivation he deserves credit, even saw him kissing the badge last night too.

Oh man, Smicer. People were saying before the game his motivation would be to play out of skin to improve his chances of getting a good club.
After the game i don't think so. He played in that red shirt with pride, he was truly part of the team and more than deserves that medal and our respect.
Thank you Vlad.

I've always felt sorry for Smicer, because he's mostly been used sporadically, is played out of position and in a style and league that doesn't suit him.  But he's always done his best without complaining (like Newcastle players do).  To score such a goal with his right peg last night was just rewards for him.  I reckon Rafa wishes he'd played him instead of Kewell from the start.

Best wishes for the future Vlad.

Totally agree with the first post about Smicer but also like to add that Dudek in my eyes, laid a lot of ghosts to rest. I've always liked dudek and felt real sorry for him when he had that howler against Man U, but he proved that he is a great shot stopper and ended up being the hero. In steve g's words "i'm absolotley made up for him" and if thats his last game for the club then its the greatest way he could ever have redeemed himself.

Cheers lads  :bowdown

this is from the guardian site, a quote from vladi from last night

"The boss is trying to build something here, a new team," said Smicer. "He told me two months ago that I would be leaving this summer. It's a shame - my two kids were born in Liverpool and I've won seven trophies at this club - but I appreciate the honesty he showed me by telling me straight. He told me that if I trained properly I'd still have a role to play in the remaining games. I never thought that might include a place at the Champions League final. That was the perfect way to bow out."

i'm just happy he's leaving us with pride in his heart and the lasting affection of all the fans. we'll never forget his contribution, his passion and his honesty in our greatest night.
