Alt - What promise

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

The kid may well have acted like a little boy off the pitch for the best part of a year (resulting in him being loaned out) but having been at the game last night, I don't think you're likely to see too many players as mature as ALT appears to be at the age of 30, never mind 20. The guy was superb last night.

His vision is great and I think he'll definitely play more games this season if his attitude's right. He looks just the type of player Rafa likes having in his team. Intelligent, hard working, great vision. He seems to have decent pace too, so a partnership with Morientes for the next couple of games may work really well.

On a side note, does anyone else think that he's actually grown in height since last year? He looked a fair bit taller to me and was winning EVERYTHING in the air ...

One thing he needs is just fitness... He doesn't need to bulk up that much in my opinion, he just needs to be able to run 90 mins and he'll be fine ... His attitude must have improved, as evident by rafa's confidence in starting him in such an important game in this tournament ...

2 things became perfectly evident to me aswell last night:

1) Rafa's way of rewarding hard work - players work hard for this guy (pongolle, biscan, le tallec, traore, potter, etc)

2) The standing ovation Le Tallec recieved when he was subbed ... What a crowd we have.

Thoughts?

I was constantly commenting to our kid that he was playing very well indeed.

He won EVERYTHING in the air up against Thuram and Cannavaro, no mean feat.

He also ran the ball into the corners when it was required, and if Milan had been more on the blob then he could have got onto to some excellent flick on headers.

One game however does not make a player, and he needs to take all his opportunities with both hands this season following his petualnce with Rafa RE: first team football.

Definately spot on about his heading ability St Mick, he caused them all sorts of problems all night with his spring. I don't remember him being particularly proficient in this area in the past so he's either worked on it, grown a bit or both.
As for Rafa and his man management technique, once again you're on the money. Takes no nonsense but doesn't bear a grudge, just the sort of guy that gets performances from players.
As a footnote, Luis Garcia? Gives posession away cheaply at times as many have said but what a footballer when it comes off. 6 million? a steal.

La Tallec had a good game last night. Didn't look uncomfortable or out of place. Best game he has ever played for us that i've seen. How does Rafa manage to get the best out of players that we had written off

he was ok but he wasnt amazing, him and baros dont seem like they would work i think he would suit better with myself or cisse cos we both like the ball to be played into our feet and with his creativity and flair behind us he could be very effective, his attitude was spot on last night and this could be a new era for le tallec, he aint gonna get many games but should play well when he does get a chance like last night

I have never written off both ALT and FSP as they're both extremely talented and pacy, however something he said must have irked the sh!t out of Rafa hence being loaned out. He had a good pre-season and though he can demand first team football but Rafa must think that his talent still need to be further developed.

I think he have learned his lesson and the next few games will give him ample opportunity to show us what he can do...

Being able to perform at the appsolute highest level, shows alot of promise. I saw him challanging for everything, and he was aggressive. He is a great talent to use as we wish.

Do you think with ALT and FSP as 3rd and 4th strikers that we could sell baros for say a class defender or midfielder. A surplus to do what we can to improve the team. I think atleast FSP is ready to take on this role, showed alot of promise before the injury.
